Need opinions on if I might be allergic to cats or it’s just something else? Two and a half weeks ago, I caught a cold. We’re a household of four and 3/4 of us got sick, tested negative for Covid as well. The other two were fine within two days but I was sick a few days longer. After that, I was completely fine except for bad coughing spasms all day long. I don’t understand why as it’s never happened before but I have noticed today that after I’ve loved up my cats for too long, I start coughing really bad. They’ve also been shedding a lot recently. My cough very dry, I have difficulty breathing in between coughs and I get a runny nose. But nothing too serious other than that. I’ve also had some phlegm in the back of my throat all this time. I’ve googled it and it’s suggested that I might be allergic to cats. I don’t understand what other reason it could be why I’d be coughing this long. Where would I go to know for 100% certain that I might be allergic? Anyone else ever experience anything like this? I’d love to know if it’s just a cough that hasn’t gone away yet and that’ll get better. I love my cats so much, I’ve had cats all my life and I don’t want to get rid of them unless I absolutely have to.

Maybe you have asthma now? Definitely worth seeing a doctor and finding out for sure.

There are far too many variables to strangers on the internet (or Google) to give you a diagnosis. I mean, a cough could be anything from post nasal drip to reflux to stage 4 lung cancer to TB.  
Like Adam said, you really should talk to your primary care provider.

the respiratory clinic can prescribe meds? So a doctor's visit is the best option for the OP. ASAP.

You see a doctor when you go to the Respiratory Clinic, and they can prescribe meds.

Can last up to 8 weeks. It's pretty common.

Supernova, I was interested in your post, as I am having similar symptoms as you. After exposure to a cat, I do get the reaction of sneezing, runny nose, sinus congestion. This past week I have had that, plus a dry cough, and a bit of a fever. The dry cough just starts suddenly. I was starting to think maybe it wasn't allergies. I went yesterday for my covid test, and am awaiting results.  
Will go to my Doctor after I get results.
