Are all dog breeds born with tails ?  
Then humans chop them off who's dumb idea was that ?

Think before you criticize,  
Although I’m not a fan of docking the tail of a puppy, in some cases it is done according to the type of work or hunting which that breed might encounter.  
Tail docking was not always done purely for aesthetics although it is unnecessary to dock a tail too short.

Easy RubyRed, Farmergeorge has a point.  
 
A hearding dog with a docked tail has less of a chnace of the animal it is trying to herd, grab it's tail to bring it down.  
 
Reminds me of a short video I see on Facebook often, of two female soccer players. One of them grabs the other girls long pony-tail and snaps her head backwards and hard, definitly causing injury. Had she not had long hair like that, same injury would not have happned.  
 
Of course, I am not saying this is the case for all dogs (border collies typically do not have docked tails, and are known to be herding dogs).

Think it's cruel .  
How would us as humans like a part of us docked off for no good reason animals can not say a word .

Yes there are breeds that have naturally bobbed tails when born, stame with cats.  
 
As for why people dock the tails and crop ears there are many reasons for doing so. Medical, working dogs like ratting dogs, some working farm dogs, ect, and some do it for aesthetics. I don't necessarily think looks should be why one does it but as long as it's done professionally who am I to judge but yes there are plenty of valid reasons in which this gets done. Like FarmerGeorge said, lots of working dogs have it done for working reasons.  
I don't see the outrage at people posting their dogs ears. Why arr you judging without knowing why it was done?

Humans circumcise male babies and have little girls’ ears pierced all the time. Yet the same people ask why some of us like our dog’s tail to be shorter for whatever reason. Just saying….
