Dogsitting, and now he's constipated??

Help!! I'm dogsitting my parent's poodle. He's an older dog, and tonight I noticed that he was dragging his bum around and attempting to have a poop but couldn't. My mom told me sometimes when he's away from home he gets constipated. I bathed him in warm water and there was a bunch on his butt (sorry, trying not to be too graphic!) and I got him all cleaned up, but worry that he will still have issues in the morning. What can I give him? I have a big golden retriever, and have never had any problems like this with her so this is very new to me!!
