Adopting a dog

A few weeks ago my husband and I were out looking for a dog to adopt. We went into Brandon to look at one but did not feel a connection. I decided to go to the Humane Society. When I got there a lady saw me but ignored me for about 15 mins. When she got to me she asked me what I wanted. I told her that we were looking for a medium family dog. She then asked me where we lived and if we had a fence. When I said that we did not have a fence that was the end of the discussion. "No fence no dog" is what I was told.
Wait a darn minute!!! That's it? YUP!
I felt like an idiot and that I did not deserve a dog because we did not have a fence.
In the past I have made many food and litter donations to the humane society. We even adopted a cat years ago. For an organization that does such good they sure made me feel bad...
