How can someone charge hundreds of dollars for a dog that is nowhere near purebread?

Looking through the pets section I quickly became disturbed by the prices people are asking for glorified mutts!!! Don't get me wrong, I own a "mutt" but I certainly did not, and would not spend upwards of $300 for a dog that is 1/4 of this, 1/8 of that, a little bit of this, with a splash of that. It's absolutely rediculous and appauling!
Rather than making money off an animal, try and find something a little more productive with your time. And for goodness sake, spay/neuter your pet so that the Humane Society doesn't have to deal with your irresponsibility as a pet owner, and so innocent animals aren't destroyed just because you want to make a quick buck.
Don't get me wrong, I know that accidents can happen and different breeds can get tangled up. But rather than charge someone hundreds of dollars, wy not just ensure the puppy goes to a good home and then have them spayed?
I guess maybe my heart is too big. I'm known for bringing animals home who are in less that satisfactory homes.
I would love to have a shelter of my own to save animals who were born to irresponsible pet owners. But, just looking at the amount of ads that are posted, I would have my work cuy ouy for me.
