worried about my dog

I have a 5 year old pug that has come a long way in being trained. But lately we have had some trouble that really concerns me. He has become aggressive towards those that live at home. He even went so far as to bite, left a mark but did not break skin. Now I am not sure what to do. He is food crazy as i understant this is a common trait with pugs and he tries to get into the cupboards and when we try to get him away he snarls and guess last night went so far as to grab the girl. Our house has had an increase of traffic as summer is here and barbque's and stuff go on and i beleive this aggitates him. He ends up in his kennel because he doesn't always listen and acts up. I work shift work and not always home and feel responsible and also stuck. What if he bites and breaks skin while i am away? I feel I have no choice but to give him up but am truly sadden. He would have to go with a small family with NO children as he has a jealous streak to him. We have had him for 3 years but the on going changes of life does not suit him. My children are grown and are busy doing their own thing. I have started a new job that requires shift work and not always able to or have the energy to excersise him. What is BEST for this boy of mine? Any suggestions? Especially those that have dealt and have older pugs please forward any suggestions.
