Little help from pet owners..

Need a little advice...
roomate just got a dog. Hooray!!!
heres the thing. I dont care for dogs. I dont hate them, i just dont particularly like having them around, for a number of reasons. Big dogs are the worst... and this ones gonna get HUGE.
I need some advice on training this thing to leave me alone, not jump on me, stop begging to climb on the couch, stop gnawing my hand, chewing my shoe, whining at me for no reason, etc etc.
The goal is a live and let live enviroment where the dog can independently amuse itself when the roomates arnt home.
people is this possible? and does anyone have any tips on resources or methods?
and before people start on me, im not looking to hurt the dog, mentally or physically in the least. I dont wish it any ill will, i just want to be left alone.
