My 7 year old cat for the last 2 days has been swallowing funny, she's been making gulping sounds when she swallows like she's trying to force her saliva down, and when she meows it's like she opens her mouth and no sound comes out.....which is strange because she's a VERY vocal cat. It reminds me of when a human has laryngitis or strep throat. She still eats, but not as much as she usually does. She doesn't seem feverish, her eyes are clear and her nose is clear.  
Has anyone experienced this with their cat? Any ideas to what this might be?  
 
I also got a new kitten this week, so I'm not sure if the kitten maybe brought a virus or something into the house and my older one caught it. My kitten is healthy right now, so I'm wondering if my older one is actually sick, or could this just be all an act due to jealousy?  
 
I do plan to give my vet a call, but I just wanted to see if anybody else has had this happen to their cat.
