I am pet-sitting and don't know what I am doing!!!

Okay, so yesterday I was on facebook when I saw one of my friend's status saying how she needed a place to have a puppy (that she just bought from somewhere around Dauphin) dropped off in Brandon and that her uncle would be by to pick it up in the evening. So, me being in the Christmas spirit, I told her she could have it dropped off here.
Well, the puppy is here, and I dont know if her uncle (coming from Winnipeg) is coming or not, and my friend is frantically calling around for someone going to Winnipeg from Brandon, or someone coming to Brandon for the day from Winnipeg.
In the meantime, I have this scared little girl sitting by my feet. My kids are trying to get her to play, but I told them to leave her alone for a while. I think maybe she is sad and scared.
She is a german shepard, around 8 or 9 weeks old. I have to go buy food for her because I dont think the large baggie of dog food that the seller dropped off will be enough to last her through tonight. I took her out to pee already, and I have a cushion set up in the corner here with a bowl of fresh water and dog food.
I don't know what to do. I have never had a dog before, even though I love them. How often do I take her out? The seller said that she'll do her business outside and she'll let us know, but how do I know if she is just whining because she is scared or if she needs to be let out?
How often do I feed her? I looked it up online and it said they need to be fed dry dogfood three times a day. Is that right?
I just don't want to do anything wrong. I really hope my friend finds a ride for her soon because I think I'm getting attached to her already, and she's only been here a couple of hours.
