boy or girl puppy?

Other than the obvious, what are the differences between male and female puppies?
We have two female cats(fixed) and are thinking about getting a small puppy.
Does anyone have any personal experience mixing cats and dogs. I wondered if a female would mix better since the cats are female.
We would also be getting the puppy fixed when she is old enough.
Also, if anyone has any or will have any shitzu cross puppies for sale can you pm me. I am thinking female and mostly brown. I would like it crossed with pomeranian, poodle or maltese.
