We are considering getting a puppy and I wondered if anyone had any suggestions of what type.  
 
I was initally wanting a shitzu cross because they are small and non shedding.  
 
Then a friend told me she had a shitzu and it was a lot of work. Lots of brushing, not easy to train (including teaching tricks) because of so much fur, often had a dirty bum. Not very smart She didn't recommend a shitzu at all.  
 
 
We already have two cats, so between the hair they lose and the hair I lose I want a non shedding dog. Small to medium size. Smart. One that will play with the kids (fetch etc). Able to go on lots of walks. Not too yappy. One that doesn't shake all the time.  
 
At one time I was also thinking of a cocker spaniel but I researched them and found that they can have a lot of health problems.  
 
I appreciate any suggestions.
