"It's just a cat"...?!

My cat went missing three weeks ago. I told my roommate that I felt the way her friend would if her son went missing. That's the kind of relationship I had with her - I raised her from 4 weeks as she had no mother and she was there through thick or thin. But why is it that when some people are approached about a missing cat you get the feeling that they don't care?! My kitty isn't "just a cat" to me! Sure having cats isn't quite the same as having dogs, but just because I have a cat doesn't make her any less missed: just that much harder to find! I was debating implementing a hunger strike 'til I find her (maybe a little excessive, yes...) to further the point that missing cats are important too! I've even wrote down all the info for missing cats on eBrandon so when I'm out searching for Penny I might recognize someone else's lost kitty too. Do people really not pay attention to cats out and about? I feel like I've been searching for a needle in a haystack. Is the general conception that cats are replaceable?!
