Sick Gold Fish

I have gold fish out side. 1 has died, and another seems to be sick, the scales stick out starting just behind the gills, back about 1 inch. The 1 that died was about 6 inches, the 1 sick is 4-5. Smaller fish seem so far unaffected. Any ideas, any cures, thanks
