how to get over a family pet

so, my husband and I have just suffered a huge loss. Our rottweiller was diagnosed with cancer and we had to put him down on Friday. We knew he was suffering and it was the best thing for him, but it feels like my heart has been ripped out. Any suggestions on how I can help mend both mine and my husbands broken spirits?
