Totally agree. Soon there will be an ad for the puppy too because they can't train it in 2 days.  
And that my friends, is why shelters are overflowing.  
Don't know how these people can sleep at night.

When I got my first "very own" dog I was 13. I worked evenings and weekend to be able to afford his food and vetting, I was able to get him neutered and everything all on my own. I found rides to be able to take him to the dog park, and between going to school during the day and working the evenings I still found time for him. He also had special dietary needs that I researched to no end to be able to give him the best possible food I could that suited his condition (which was over $100 for a smallish bag). When I turned 18 and moved out on my own, I searched high and low for a place that would take both of us, and I did it. If a 13 year old can do it then I don't believe any excuse for an adult.

Really? A few people make an unfortunate mistake in thinking a pet is what they want and seek to correct their mistake by allowing the beast to find a loving home elsewhere and the morals of the entire species, "humanity" is diminished in your eyes?  
 
They've broken no laws or by laws. They are perfectly within their rights to purchase or obtain whatever they want within the confines of the law and disperse or dispense their purchase within the same confines.

It is unfortunate. Obviously those people did not take their time and think things through and do their homework before picking up the kitten. A pet should not be a quick decision. Should have thought a little more on which type of pet they wanted first instead of getting both and then deciding. I have 3 animals and my 2 cats did not "interfer" with my ability to train my young puppy. That's irresponsible. Pets are a commitment people...

Because there are so many unwanted cats. People set bunnies "free" when they find out they arnt the cuddly creatures that they want. And they just re home their cats or set them free when they are unwanted as well. In the ad it states they have 2 other cats... So you cant tell me that they didnt know what they were getting into. They took the kitten home knowing they had 2 othwr cats and what to expect and decided to get a puppy and now the kitten doesnt matter. Its pathetic.

Are the ones who try to SELL their pets that they've had for 5 years or more because, "we no longer have time for them". Seriously???? You have had them for years and now all of a sudden you don't have TIME for them anymore? Makes me crazy! These pets might just be animals to most people, but to that animal, you are their world! They get attached to you and they trust in you for their food, exercise and affection. Then you take that away from them? Ugh.

I just went and read the ad. It states it was her barn cat that wasn't doing well after it was born so she saved his life and bottle fed it back to life. She doesn't want to put her back in the barn bc the other cats are wild. You guys are a bunch of self righteous naggers who complain about every little thing because you think you're better then everyone else. At least she saved the kitten and didn't let it die

how many are the same way about kids ??????? cute cuddly but they grow up and need attention care clothes food medical list goes on. But an animal has no voice they just go where ever they get handed to. Its a mistake haha its a whim. Its a throw away item just like everything else now.  
Cute at the time but shiny wears off pretty quick with many people,its sad.  

I messaged her and she responded back with that she saved it ect. I apoligised for jumping to conclusions and suggested she change her ad to include that so that people knew the whole reason rather then every one assuming like i did.

Sounds like my dead beat aunt. She disposes of pets like she does her children. Same mentality as far as I am concerned.

I do agree with what Spags has to say!  
There was really no reason to reach out and belittle them as they are at least finding help with the homing crisis and not just releasing the animal..  
However I have looked at the ad and she better explains it. After the fact you reached out to her I'm sure.  
 
I continued to look at other ads and now feel the need to jump back on the the band wagon of "Selling super mixed breeds for a ridiculous amounts"

Pets aren't children.  
 
If a person makes a bad choice of pets, why is trying to find a better home for that animal a crime.  
 
Allergies, aggression, personality, or whatever.  
 
The real crime is belittling that person on ebrandon or sending emails to the person in an attempt to force them to keep the pet for the next 12 years no matter how unhappy the animal will be.

So you made the mistake and are suggesting she should do something so that others like yourself don't continue to make erroneous choices?

I did not belittle her. I assumed and was wrong. I apoligised after hearing the whole story. Wording is everything.

You totally belittled her, and started a discussion so others could join you in bullying her! The fact that YOU feel others owe you an explanation for why they are legally selling/giving away their pet is the problem, not "wording"!!! Unbelievable!! How many other sellers have you contacted to shame them for getting rid of their pet? This can't be the first time. Get off your high horse and leave people alone about their animals. Pets are our property to do with as we please (outside of neglect/abuse) and it is absolutely none of your business whether people want to get rid of their pets!

Unfortunately sometimes rehoming a pet is just the only option. I lived in the country and had a nice yard for my large dog, and due to unfortunate circumstances had to make the move to Brandon. It is extremely difficult to find an apartment that allows pets, and even if i had been able to, my dog was used to a huge yard to play in. I don't feel a small apartment would have been the best thing for him. He is now content and living on a farm with lots of room to play. I still go and visit him every chance i get, throw a ball around, etc. But it was in no way an easy decision to make, but it was the best thing for him.

Parents have rescued two cats in the following two years that were dropped off on there property in minus 40 weather both times. Both cats they rescued and kept but the female lost her ears.  
 
My parents neighbor has over a dozen from the last decade. She gets them neutered and spade and has a whole barn for them. There is also a lady in rivers who rescues cats. She had over 15 when we picked up a kitten from her, same thing they get dropped off at her horse training area or at her house and she ends up saving them.  
 
People in the city have no idea how bad it is in the country and if weren't for good honest farmers taking them in there would be a ton more dead cats.

Although, I agree with your saying. You are way out of line. You have no right to email people about the decisions they make and belittle/intimidate them or make them feel poorly. A year ago, we made a decision to get our first puppy. The puppy was high strung, and my toddler was way too overwhelmed, so I explained to the original owner the situation and she was happy to take the puppy back. We haven't got a pet since and won't be until my son can handle puppy play. But I wouldn't of known it wasn't a good decision for me if I didn't try and trust me it was NOT an easy decision to make and I felt horrible. Things happen. Situations change. I too shake my head at a lot of ads I see. I do believe pets are forever. But I would never attack someone on a public forum when I did not even know the whole situation yet.

These thread are started pretty regularly, they seem to like to troll the classifieds then come on to the discussions to shame and slam people, because they cant live up to their unrealistic beliefs on pet ownership,not everybody is able to account for every situation that can arise with a new pet your life, circumstances can change in a heart beat, at least they are trying to do the right thing by re homing these pets, not just dumping them in the country or putting them in a bag and throwing them in the river.

I understand from all your posts in the past that you have issues. It's ok. You strike me as a person who does harm to the defensless. I would love to see you adopted out then put on the street... Although that may have already happened.

Although the OP made a mistake in assuming the woman was just trying to get rid of her cat, this is often the case and it is disgusting. A pet is a responsibility. It should not be brought into your family on a whim. People need to realize that the living, breathing, and feeling animal is a commitment and if, in the foreseeable future, they cannot give it the time, they shouldn't get an animal. Of course there are cases where circumstances arise that cause people are not able to keep their pet. Allergies is acceptable: boredom is not. An animal is a part of your family and not your "property." A table can't love you and depend on you like a pet.

This is getting ridiculous, why do you people so desperately want people who have decided they don't want their pets to keep them,who are you trying to punish the person or the pet,if its not wanted, isn't it in the animals best interest to be removed from the situation, if people are not allowed to re home un wanted pets they will dump them or kill them, coming on here trying to shame these people doest help the pet at all

Whoa!! Spaghetti's post was reasonable, level headed and well written. It's pretty frightening that you would make such a slanderous statement and wish harm on him, simply because you disagree! If anyone "has issues", it's you! Your post was ridiculously over the top.  
 
Pets are PROPERTY, not people, in the eyes of the law. People are free to sell or give away their animals and it's perfectly legal! Your feelings on the matter mean nothing in the eyes of the law. These people are within their rights to rehome their pets and it is absolutely none of your business.

So I guess you're the expert on what an acceptable reason is to rehome a pet? Should everyone just check with you first to see if their reason is ok?  

I feel like those who get all worked up over rehoming pets aren't very bright. Do you ever stop to think about the actual pets in these situations? You people would rather force people to keep pets they don't want then allow them to rehome them. You don't even think about the fact that these pets will be ignored and lonely in their current homes and will have a shot a t a better life if rehomed. Instead, you get joy from getting on your soapboxes and shaming people, without even thinking about the well being of the pet involved. There's a real lack of maturity and reasonable thinking in posts from supposed animal lovers that make them sound more like people haters than animal lovers.  
 
People need to start minding their own business when it comes to animals. It's really getting out of hand when someone is actually taking the time to troll the pets section and personally email the pet owners to shame them for legally rehoming their pets. It's not psychologically normal, and it's not fair to the pet owners who are doing nothing wrong.

It is none of my buisness, however i see a lot of poor judgment for re homing pets. Ive rescued 3 unwanted rabbits one of wich was just "set free" so yes posts make me angry. And yes you have a point that perhaps its in the pets best interest. Of course there are always going to be unforseeable circumstances and i jumped the gun yesterday. I apoligised to the poor girl a few times yesterday and she seems to understand where im coming from so i really dont see why you people need to jump down my throat. I get that she did something wonderful and i ripped her a new one without thinking but only because i have 3 rabbits that were pretty close to death when i got thsm. So i am very skeptical of all the unwanted pet ads. I am at least greatful they are trying to rehome their pets but perhaps better wording in ads should be used so animal lovers like myself dont mistake it for being a selfish thing. Which i did and am sorry for jumping to conclusions. You wouldnt believe how many unwanted pet rabbits are just let loose. I see posts every week about someone finding a pet rabbit that either goes to the pound and gets terminated or other people rescue them as i did mine. Rabbits arnt the cuddly creatures everyone wants them to be and so they just rid themselves of them because no one wants them. If i had room id take them all. So i was just speaking from experiance.

these ads to rehome pets are disappointing. Decisions to take home a puppy or kitten shouldn't be made lightly. As for allergies, I researched breeds until we found one that could be around my son. Aggressions in an animal are taught by the owner or established as self defense in said animal. Personality also affects one's choice in the type of animal they bring home. In the end, you or I made that choice to provide unconditional love, food and shelter for the "fur baby" and we've gained their loyalties. There's nothing that makes my day any better than coming home to wagging tails and squeak toys! Remember, when it's all said and done, we have our jobs, friends, social events, etc.....But the only thing our pets have is US!

I've said it before, and I'll say it again....shaming people regarding pets does not change anyone's mind, it just makes them more likely to dispose of their pet less publicly and less humanely. If you actually want to make a difference, dedicate your time to educating people, not shaming them. Try looking at the ads as a better chance for the animal instead of always assuming the worst.  
 
And Kayla, you really need to start using your brain before someone presses charges against you for harassment or slander. I'm happy you now realize your mistake and have apologized, but this isn't the first discussion you've started with the purpose of shaming people regarding pets. And it's obviously not the first time you've contacted someone to personally shame them regarding an ad. You have no right whatsoever to do this and you need to stop. If you feel an animal is in harms way, call animal control, otherwise mind your own business before you get yourself in some serious trouble.

Not bright? No. I prefer to think that I consider the consequences of bringing a domesticated animal into my home. I worked with a woman who got her daughter a cat because it was cute and then set it on her doorstep and called the pound to say it was a stray that was sitting outside their house. It's those people I have issues with and the ones that leave their DOMESTIC rabbits out in the wild. The people who put ads up are at least trying to do the right thing. I don't consider myself to be a better person than the people leaving their animals for dead. Kinder? Definitely. Also, people's feelings on animals has nothing to do with intelligence. I'm an animal person and I love my pets. I can't imagine having to give them up or seeing them hurt for any reason. I don't agree with your opinion on this matter (though in other threads I often side with you), but I don't think you're an idiot. Not being able to see both sides of a discussion, however, is a sign of ignorance and resorting to a judgement on someone's intelligence based on their belief in one discussion is ridiculous.
