Ok so I moved to Brandon recently and it's really lonely even though I have a roommate. I've been surrounded by pets or neighbors pets all my life, even after I moved off my parents farm. My neighbors have pets but I'm too shy to talk to them. I keep getting told I can't have a pet because of city bylaws so I'm a little confused.  
 
But if this bylaw is the place (I can't seem to find it), what pet could I have in a condo?  
 
It's owned by my mom (I'm renting) who doesn't care whether I have a pet and told me about the bylaw. But doesn't know the restrictions either.

never heard of a city by-law that restricts pets in condos. I'm pretty sure it's up to the condo owner to decide. Same with apartment owners.

So your mother, as the condo owner, should have access to the condo by-laws. Ask her to find out for sure.

neighbors happen to be in the same condo complex and they have pets. The condo owners association may have restrictions on the type of pet. And as above the Condo Owners Association by-laws will have all of the information you need.  
 
Doesn't the City by-law require dogs to be licensed though?

Bylaws of the condo corporation. Some condo corporation do not allow pets, some might allow small pets. You can contact the management of that condo and they will tell you. Your mom as an owner should know that and she should have a copy of bylaws or amendments. If not, just talk to manager of the condo building and see if your are allowed to have any pets or not.

It's definitely not a "city bylaw". I know a few people who have pets in a condo, and there not the kind that would sneak it in. So there is some condos that allow pets in the city.

The Manitoba Condo Act does not state a homeowner or tenant can not have a pet.  
 
If there are any restrictions to having a pet in a condo, it would be stated in the condo corporation’s Declaration, By-Laws or Rules.  
 
If in doubt, contact the Property Management as to what the most current rules are of the Condo Corporation you are residing in. Just because you see other residents in your condo with pets does not mean it is permitted.

to believe that the City of Brandon has a by law of no pets. Because obviously that would mean that a large number of residents would be breaking the rules. As far as I know the city does have a by law restricting the number of pets per each home though. Condos make their own by laws, which the owner (your mom) would have copies of the info. And as she is renter out the unit she wold be required to enforce with her tenants.

Condos have their own by-laws. I live in condo and yes, there is a pet clause in the by-laws. Only cats or a dog under a specific size (height in inches), they can't disturb other owners/renters (i.e.. Constantly bark), you must have them on a leash in any common areas and take them off the property to do their business. I love dogs but it frustrates me when I see dog pee or shit in the common area or on the grass. If you get a dog, please be responsible.

Your suggestion is to take said pet out of town to do his business. Condo should have an area for pets or on city frontage. Sorry you take ownership of all grass.

has the same rules as the condos I live in. All pets must be on a leash and supervised within the common grounds. Plus they must be walked to city owned grass to relieve themselves. And of course, owners are responsible for picking up after their pets.

Lol that is not what I said - you aren't familiar with condo terms clearly. The common areas are lobbys, hallways, elevators. Grass would be between buildings. I meant they have to take their pets away from the grass between the buildings..which would be the most convenient for them.
