Cat hit by car in 1200 block of 6th

My husband witnessed a large longhair cat get hit in front of our home around 6:10 this evening. Unfortunately the cat didn't make it and we are trying to find it's owner to inform them and give them the remains. The cat is grey and black (from what we can tell in the dark) with a white underbelly. Not sure if there was a collar and we couldn't see if there was a tattoo. A big thanks for reporting this. I'm sorry for the poor cat that was hit.

Am not sure why people just let cats roam (Especially on a busy street like 6th).
I'm really sorry to hear of any animal mowed over when they should be safe and sound in a home.

.....Kellye, not all cats are "allowed to roam", sometimes they sneak out......cats can move fast and are sneaky when they want outside......thanks Kita, hope you find the owners......

No luck finding an owner. I might take another look at him for a collar or tattoo. I'm not sure what else to do at this point

You can call and report it to animal control, they'll check for a collar or tattoo and try and figure out who the owner is...

probably best to call animal control and have the remains removed. It is not sanitary or safe to keep them as it will start to decay and you have no way of knowing if the cat was a carrier of any diseases, etc. Animal control can come and take a look for markings, and see if the owner can be found.

The other thing you could do is take it to a vet clinic. They can look for a tattoo or a microchip, and they could store the remains properly until the owner is found.

You are right, Judy. I apologize for jumping to conclusions. They can indeed bolt out of a door at lightning speed.

Animal Control

I've called animal control and they will be coming to pick up the remains. Hopefully the owners will be notified. I'd hate for them to be wondering for long, though this isn't good news. Thanks for your suggestions everyone
