probably best to call animal control and have the remains removed. It is not sanitary or safe to keep them as it will start to decay and you have no way of knowing if the cat was a carrier of any diseases, etc. Animal control can come and take a look for markings, and see if the owner can be found.
The other thing you could do is take it to a vet clinic. They can look for a tattoo or a microchip, and they could store the remains properly until the owner is found.
