My budgie ran away and it is outside now. Getting dark and I am wondering if it can make it until morning. Any body has experienced this situation? Should I be worry or it will come back tommorow morning. I have left the cage outside with other budgies in there but as it is getting darker I need to bring them inside house, so will be no chance until morning for him to find his way home.

I think it's better to take the cage inside and save rest of the budgies. Regarding the explorer who ran away, just throw lots of budgie food around your house and it should do the trick. Please don't complain if you find more than one budgie tomorrow morning

If he hasn't come back you should also let Brandon and Area Lost Animals (BALA) on Facebook know, with a picture. Many animals have been found and returned to their owners through them.

I've kept all kinds of birds and have had an outdoor aviary for about 20 years. Occasionally a bird will get out and if you can see or hear your budgie close by putting your other birds outside is the best way to go. How quiet is your budgie? Would it land on a stranger's shoulder? Of course this generally startles an unprepared person which then startles the bird but hopefully he will find someone who might invite him inside. Keep watch in the found ads and maybe place one there as well. Good luck getting him back.

This time of year a budgie can survive outside just fine. If he is not in your yard hopefully he will find a feeder and water and the owner will get in touch with you.

As well as contacting Brandon and Area Lost Animals, also be sure to post a 'lost' ad in the eBrandon classifieds. There are people who read the classifieds but not the discussion threads.

I can hear him on the tree close by. I have left other buggies outside in other cage, and left the normal cage beside it with the door open. I hope he comes right into the cage, it has been a while now but he is not in the cage yet.  
May be he is telling other ones that he has a blast being free outside!

Glad to hear he is close by. I would suggest that the only feed and water you have for him should be in the cage. It is hot out today so make sure your birds are in the shade. It sounds like he is enjoying his freedom. If I was trying to catch my own bird this is what I would try ... If you can, put the cage the budgies are in inside a larger cage. If you can't do that make the empty cage a little harder to get into. Possibly have the door facing the other cage, about an inch and a half away. A cage easy to get into is also easy to get out of. Budgies are smart so he will figure it out. If you can fix up a put string to close the door from a few feet away that might help. If evening comes and you haven't had any luck yet wait a bit longer. He may want to find a perch in the cage. If you usually cover them at night cover the other birds and partly cover the empty cage. Try this until dark and if it doesn't work bring the other birds inside. He will have found his place for the night. Pet birds do like familiar things and at night especially they want a safe place. I have a love bird who flies free all day but always goes to his perch inside his cage every evening. Now that I think about it I have had a bit of experience with this ... Most of the time I have had good luck but not always. Please keep us posted.

I had my budgee get out! I even went as far as buy a new one so my daughter wouldn't find out before she got home from school. Anyways long story short by 9 pm I went outside and heard her chirping in the trees. I called her name and said" Sugar get down from that tree and come here" That bird literally landed at my feet and I threw my shirt over him! I was amazed but those budgees do not want to be free! I had to return the other bird and exchange them in the middle of the night and my daughter never knew any different, but me and Sugar sure knew! Go call her and she will probably come back. Leaving your other budgees out is a good idea. Good lucka nd let us know!

we seen a green budgie at feeder a week ago,#3 49 hummingbird lane,apparently been around for awhile. 728-2321

It is awesome to hear this guy is still around. Is your feeder close to your house or garage?  
Would it be possible to leave a door open in either? It is getting colder out and this guy might want to seek shelter inside. The ideal would be to have the other budgies close by now.

Ok he is still here...up high in the tree but still here at least. I have a bird cage with food and water by where he likes to feed with the sparrows. Garage door is open, have my net (plastic so it doesn''t hurt him) and a pillow case which the owner suggested to throw on him, hopefully today is the day lol.  
Also have a few wild bird feeders close to the bird cage full of budgie food.

If you can't have other budgies in the garage can I suggest using a recording of budgies and put it in the garage possibly in a cage with food and water. I am guess he will be missing his buddies but sounds like he has made friends with some of the locals. A plus is that the sparrows won't mind having him around. I am looking forward to hearing he is home again.

A neighbour has a green budgie in their back yard for the last two days on cedar bay

I tried to catch him for 2 weeks and he just was to quick for me...has become a sparrow budgie. I live on Buttercup Bay so it's probably the same one. Spoke to the lady in add and gave her some info. Owner to property says I can go tomorrow and try to catch this slick little bugger.  
 
Forgot to say main poster says I can keep budgie if I catch him. And at first I didn''t but now I would because of the struggle...I am attached now lol.

Glad he is still alive. Yes if you or any body else catch him, you can have him and take care of him if you would like. Just let me know that he is safe in your home!

I just noticed that somebody posted that they found a green budgie on the recent classified ads. Maybe it's yours OP.

During that cold spell I started wondering if that green budgie that ventured outside was ever found?
