Just wanted everyone in the north end to be aware to please try and keep your pets closely watched. Especially out door cats. There is someone in the neighborhood (cannot post who as there is no proof, only very very certain suspicion) that is skinning parts of our neighborhood cats and throwing them in back yards. As a pet lover I am absolutely appalled that this is happening and that a poor black and white cat had to be cleaned up from our backyard.  
I just want to let pet owners know to please watch your animals (especially outdoor cats)

What do you mean skinning?! Wtf. Did it happen to more than one cat? That's crazy!! You should let BALA know. Even though it's for missing animals but just so ppl know to keep an extra eye out in that area. That's sick!

May I ask exact area? A few months ago, our cat was shot with a pellet gun (he was tied up in our back yard)

Stickney/McDonald Avenue. The cat was found with its tail skinned (hopefully not alive) the pound came to clean up the body and inform the owners as it had an ear tattoo.... I feel so bad for them. It is disgusting that someone could do that. It is not the first cat this has happened to in in the area

Outside close by in that same area a cat crying but it was out in the distance this is horrible

This is why I have a indoor cat so many dangers .

I know that these days the vehicles don't have a lot of room under the hood but I imagine animals and especially cats could still climb up in there. It has been a long time but I have seen some cats have a chunk of fur removed because they where by the motor when the vehicle was started. Could this be what happened? A tail could very easily get caught. If there was more than one incident then I would think it could be a person.

Unfortunately there has been more than one incident.... and it was not just the fur taken off. The other cat was able to be saved and rehomed

I was hoping there really wasn't a dirt bag out there doing this but sounds like there is. So hope this person gets caught and prosecuted to the fullest.

If this is really happening then why are there no newspaper, radio or tv blips telling us to keep an extra close eye on our pets? The police should be issuing statements and such.....Or does this sick behavior go unreported?  
You don't need evidence to say that there is a suspicion of bad happenings.

A lot of times there has to be some evidence and unless more than a handful say something not much gets done. This is why places like this and fb pages can be helpful

Trust me if there was more I could do i would. Bala is informed. Bylaw is informed. And the provincial animal abuse people are also informed. We are trying to have this looked after by the right people.

Ok. If what you're saying is true and there has been more than one incident and you have a "very very certain suspicion" you need to be going to the police. Animal abuse is a criminal offence that is punishable by law. While you don't have solid evidence you obviously think you know enough to have a "certain suspicion" which is grounds for the police to at least question someone. It is absolutely appalling to think someone could harm any animal in such a cruel inhumane way and I think anyone who has the capacity to do something so atrocious as "skinning a cat" clearly has some deep mental issues that need to be addressed.  
 
If you haven't already done so I would say contact the police with what you know.  
 
If you have contacted the police and they are doing nothing about it I think that is absolutely outrageous.

Not that I am condoning the behaviour of someone if they did do this, but if the bylaw was followed, the cat couldn't have had this happen to them.

Thanks for the warning and for trying to let the proper authorities know about this abuse. I really appreciate this kind of information. My new kitten is too young to go outside and I just may consider keeping her indoors for he lifetime when I hear these type of creeps are out there.

It's finally happening, Brandon has officially becoming as messed up as Winnipeg, now we got sickos skinning cats? What's next shootings?

Well, this is awful, but in my opinion cats in the city should be left indoors. Our neighbors have six cats (yes they moved here with them, so can keep them, according to by-law). All summer they have been in my yard shitting in the flowers, scaring the birds, so my indoor cats have nothing to watch. Yes, we called by-law and set up traps.  
 
Keep your cats indoors or practice with a leash, so at least they stay in your own yard. There are stupid, bored people out there, look after your animal first and foremost.
