I'm just wondering if you want a cat but you are allergic ,is there allergy pills or something a person can take to help with the problem ?

yes I know do not get the cat

I'm another pet lover with allergies. I use Reactine, but it's not completely effective, just minimizes the symptoms. Avoid having carpets if possible, and vacuum up hair and dust really often (I vacuum every day or two - if I leave it longer than that, my eyes start itching and I get all stuffed up).

doesn't mean you should have a cat. If you are allergic, pills and eye drops only go so far to alleviate allergy symptoms.

Any of the second generation antihistamines that are non-drowsy (Reactine, Claritin, Allegra, Aerius) will help. Also, as SecondDraft said, avoid carpets and vacuum and dust frequently. Be sure to feed the cat a high-quality food, which will lessen shedding. And there is a product called Allerpet-C, which is a liquid that you put on a cloth and rub onto the cat - it helps lessen dander.

Also make sure to feed a high quality food. The cheap foods cause more dander. I use acana brand food and dont have any issues. When i go over to someones house where they feed grocery store food i get itchy instantly.

whatever you find for allergy relief, after few years it will catch up to you and you will have problem.
I know a person had to terminate their pets due to allergy because nothing was effective.
Unless there is a breed cat that causes no or less allergies.
Bengals cats causes less allergy that I read or maybe those cats with no hair. Special breed cat will be costly so you decide

if you get the cat as a kitten, start brushing, using cat shampoo. We did that, now my cat is six years old and waits daily to be brushed. She even lets me vacuum her (pic added). Turned out, hubby wasn't allergic anyway.

I'm allergic to cats. However, I find after a week or two I become desensitized to them. The first little bit I take equate brand antihistamines. I find they work the best. But I agree with the above poster: carpets suck! I even dust and sweep daily. But it helps.

There is a breed of cat out there that has a very low instance of causing allergies! The Siberian breed has a lower occurance of FelD1 in their saliva. There is a breeder in Winnipeg.

I changed her food for other reasons and my nose stopped dripping two days later.

I was allergic to her trying to process wheat, corn, and other fillers in the cheaper cat food. The new food also had cranberries to reduce the risk of UTI and that may have also helped.

I currently feed my cats Acana Grassland (green bag) from Best West on 18th Street North.
