Wanting to let all pet owners in south side of Brandon know to be diligent with the safety of your pets. On Monday night (boxing day) at 1 am I let our pet chihuahua out to do his business. Minutes later a large owl attacked. I was able to get the owl to release him and it flew away. Our dog was taken to the vet the next day and was extremely lucky that I had intervened. He only suffered small talon incisions as well as sore muscles, it could have been extremely worse. At first we thought this was an isolated incident however have heard that it attacked 2 turkeys down our street, killing one and maiming the other. We are located in town right off of Richmond and want people to be aware and on guard with their pets.

So glad that your little dog is going to be all right. We're pretty sure this is how we lost our cat a few years back. We also live on the south side of Brandon.

There is a huge hawk that hunts in the east end as well. So glad your dog is okay!
