What do you use for hairballs ?

Just shaving your cat. Removes any future, self inflicted issue.

Try switching to a food that helps with hairballs. I also have a de-shedder brush I use on both of mine and that seems to help a lot! Had my cats for 3 years and have only had 1 hairball.

I do give her Purina cat chow for hairball control can't let her have a lot because then she can't do No 2.& she gets soft food & 4 Temptations a day.

I use a product called VitaLax. It is a flavoured gel for hairballs. It is available at the Wheat City Vet clinic.  
It works great. I give my kitty approximately two 1/2 inch strips of gel twice a week for hairball prevention. No hairballs! Shaving your cat is not necessary.

vitalax does it come in flavours ? my cat does not like anything to do with the seafood family. Yeah no cat shaving  
 
I guess I should of researched before posting I see there are no flavors .

Use a gel i cant remember the name but its made by vetoquinol they sell it at grand valley. Beef flavored i believe.

lolololololol sorry this struck me as super funny this morning ....ive always used a touch of olive oil in my kitties wet food and have never had any problems...two or three eyedrops in once day or every second depending on how bad they were

The VitaLax is sort of a caramel/butterscotch flavour. Best that I can describe. I haven't actually tasted it myself! Apparently you can also just give the cats a bit of Vaseline on their tongue but I would check at the Vet clinic first about that. The girls at Wheat City Vet clinic at the front desk are really helpful with hairball info. There is also a Hartz Hairball Remedy gel at Walmart. My kitty doesn't like to lick the gel up on his own so I just put it on his tongue. It helps the hair to pass without causing hard lumps. We haven't had hairballs since we are on VitaLax. I highly recommend it.

I used Laxatone for my old cat who was long haired and used to get furballs regularly. It comes in an original flavor (maple) as well as catnip and tuna. I got it from my vet, but am not sure if it is available at pet food stores too.

We have 3 cats & used to struggle trying to force them to eat some of the stuff squeezed from the tube. Often put some on finger & on their mouth, legs so they'd lick it off. About 2 years ago bought Therabites, a chew we buy (usually) from Brandon Hills Vet. We give one to each once a week. Instructions are give one to two twice per day for 5-7 days/month.Think, initially, when we first started, we gave more. So far, no problems but do find vomits containing long hair ball occasionally. They are expensive @ about $7. for 20 chews.

My cat has had hairball after trying a variety hairball stuff i just give him a lion cut and he has no hairballs as long as i keep up the lion cut. I do it about 4 times a year yes grooming a cat isnt always funbut it works the best for me
