First of all, I want to thank any courteous pet owners who do not do this. For those of you who prevent your dogs from doing their business on other people's property, thank you for being a decent human being.  
 
However, there have been a couple of times where owners, while walking their dogs, have allowed their dogs to defecate on my lawn. My wife is not the kind of person who feels comfortable speaking up, so she says nothing about it when it happens. But i've come home to find feces on my lawn and my wife telling me "At first I couldnt tell if the guy was just letting his dog pee on the grass and so I didnt want to say anything. But then I realized he was allowing the dog to go number two".  
 
Really people? What makes you think tha this is okay? And then to not clean it up and leave it as my problem? I dont own a dog. And one of the many reasons I dont own a dog is because I dont want to have to pick up feces. (Also I dont have the time to give it the love that it would deserve, so I feel the responsible thing is to not own one in the first place). But how can someone allow their dog to go in another person's lawn and then not even bother the clean it up. This enrages me. Is cleaning it up a huge ordeal? No, but I shouldnt have to. And what's worse is one time I didnt notice it, and went over it with my lawn mower while cutting the grass.  
 
If you are one of these people who do this, please stop. It is completely disrespectful. I get that dogs have to do their business. But as a pet owner, it's your responsibility to keep the dogs off of people's grass, and also to clean up after them. If you cant do that, you shouldnt own a pet.

I regularly find crap on my lawn (technically the boulevard, but I have to mow it).  
I find this disgusting, but don't have an issue with them just having a pee. A male dog will lift his leg on any piece of grass.  
But I was walking my dog one day and got yelled at because he lifted his leg on grass at the edge of a guy's yard.  
Just wondering if others feel #1 is also an issue? Can't really carry a bucket to catch it...

Sadly, the type of person that does allow their dog to do that is probably getting a good chuckle out of your thread. Some people really just don't care. I would be tempted to throw on some gloves and rub it in their face. Maybe then they would care.

The first 5-10 feet of "your" lawn actually is City property. It doesn't bother me if people let their dog poop on the city property in front of my house, as long as they pick it up after.

Doesnt really bother me. It ends up absorbed into the grass and isnt an issue when I mow.

It wouldnt bother me so much if they cleaned it up. But leaving a mess anywhere that someone else will have to clean it up is completely disprespectful.  
 
If you walk your dog and dont bring bags to clean up after them, you're a bad pet owner and a terrible human being.

Can someone please clarify what the beef actually is? I''m always unclear what the complaint in fact is.  
 
Is it:  
 
A) The fact that a dog goes on the lawn (either #1 or #2) AT ALL, regardless if the owner cleans it up or not  
 
OR  
 
B) The fact that a dog goes on the lawn and the owner doesn''t pick it up  
 
 
Because I totally understand B). As a dog owner, I''m seriously annoyed and icked out when other people don''t clean up after their dog. I can also understand, to a degree, being upset if dogs always pee in the same spot on your property because it can and does kill the grass if it happens often enough.  
 
But if it''s A), it''s kinda unrealistic to expect dogs will never go on your lawn. The act of walking often will cause a dog to move their bowels (just as exercise often has the same effect on humans), and most dogs will NOT squat on the concrete. As long as the owner cleans up the mess, I have a hard time understanding what precisely the problem is.  
 
As for urinating, dogs do have an instinctual need to mark territory, so you occasionally do need to indulge them (not every tree however, maybe one a block). I also try not to stop in the same places every time, cognizant that my dog is probably not the only one peeing there and not wanting to damage the grass.

Comes to mind people letting their poop at the mail boxes and not picking up the mess either....it is disgusting because this past spring when the snow was melting there were massive piles of crap on the walk leading to the mail box.....I for one had to step over this mess when I went to check my mail....again even though its winter you still have to pickup the crap!

Worse too if you have kids who run ahead and think they have found sticks or those who pick up everything before you can stop them. Remembering those days....we lost many many mittens. It was so gross. Spring was the worst when all the poo was exposed from lack of clean up over winter along the paths.

I find it annoying as a non-dog owner, that if I walk barefoot on my lawn, I could be walking on dog pee.  
 
I don't get how it's okay.

Firstly being a person who has stepped in dog poop mowing my front lawn I'm glad to see a post like this ! Although , I must admit after the huffing and puffing , I took into consideration it could be a stray ( also hoping that no jack-a would let their dog poop 5 ft onto my lawn).  
Secondly - I hate having to admit it but the peeing is annoying - I make an effort to seed/water& fertilize my grass - I also buy dog rocks so my own dog doesn't kill my back yard - I also make an effort to keep Asher from peeing on people's flowers and lawns - I don't care what you want to say , if you are conscience of trying to keep your dog from peeing on people's lawns it's really not that hard - another solution I've considered is just fencing in your front lawn

Just irresponsible dog owners. Take a bag and pick it up. Do you know what it is like to have a dog shit on your yard and you not know it, and you mow the grass over fresh dog shit - not nice!  
 
It almost brings to to the same conclusion of the irresponsible dog owners that get a puppy that grows to big and then they just want to get rid of it.  
 
I often take my neighbors dog for a walk, with a bag. It takes me all of 2 seconds to bend over and pick it up.  
 
If you can't pick up your dog shit, while walking a dog, maybe you should hire a dog walker who will do that stuff.

You do know you are walking on all kinds of things on your grass like bird poop, rabbit poop, and more. Our lawns are outside in nature, it's weird to expect them to be pristine clean. However, people should always clean up after their pets

Several years ago there was a lady who would let her dog poop everyday along College Ave where I was living, so one day I waited for her and watched her dog poop and watched her not pick it up. SO I went outside and yelled at her from across the street "pick up your dog sh*t!". I believe she changed walking routes and let her dog poop on someone else's street.....sorry next street over..... but it stopped the dog from doing it on our lawn.  
FYI she didn't pick it up that day but got flustered, ignored me and walked away.

OMG people, how could you do anything to harm an animal. That's not right in any way, shape, or form. I have a puppy, and to think that people could do something to harm them sickens me. I agree with the people who have said thats going to far.  
 
I walk my puppy daily and bag goes with me every time. I do my best not to let her go on any bodies yard. But sometimes...when you gotta go you gotta go...but as for a dog pooping...I have always cleaned it up.  
 
I really want to urge the people putting cayenne pepper on yards to re-think what you are doing...way to harsh.

with undertheradar. I have had people walking their dogs on the side walk in front of my house and not cleaning up after. But I could never find out who he/ she was. I humbly request all the pet owners who take their pets out for a walk, please pick up after if they are not doing so.

Another dog owner here. I moved to Brandon about a year ago, and am constantly disgusted by how many people don't pick up after their pets. And not just on walks - I've gone past houses where people take their dog out into the front yard and let them poop right on the sidewalk. I don't understand why it's so difficult to clean up after your own pet! No one else should have to, and no one should have to dodge "land mines" while walking down the sidewalk!  
 
It's great that the City puts out free bags and garbage cans along walking trails - it would be really nice if they could do something similar every few blocks in residential areas too! And I know that would be a lot of work to maintain more public garbage cans (yay for creating new jobs?) but it might also help with littering too (especially near schools, convenience stores, etc.)

I also have two dogs and never let them pee or poop on people's front yard. We planted shrubs in our front yard last year and they were during great at the beginning of spring and now one is dying for no apparent reason. The only reason I can think of is people letting their dogs pee on it and killing it off. I don''t know why pet owners allow their dogs to pee on other people''s shrubs and plants. Very inconsiderate and irresponsible.

I have never had a dog that will do its business on concrete. As mentioned earlier, the first few feet of your frontage is owned by the city even if you look after it.  
 
I always clean up after my dogs. The odd time I have forgotten clean-up bags, I go get one and go back to pick up. I'd love to be yelled at by some nut in this situation.  
 
Now, any suggestion what I should do with the cat feces I find daily in my garden and flower beds?

How many owners have a back yard. Let your dog out and have it do its business in your yard before you go for a walk. Watched a lady the other day let her dog pee on a guys wooden fence totally wrong.
