We are getting our first family pet (Chihuahua) and am wondering what vaccinations need to be done, preferred place to go, price comparison, etc.? I'd like to go to a place where they genuinely take the time to get to know your pet and give the best care possible. I am new to this and yes, I am aware I can call and ask around but I'd like to know others' experiences.

We've taken our animals to Grand Valley. They've been great! I honestly haven't had a bad experience there, and I find their rates reasonable.

Hands down the best care for my dogs, affordable, caring, compassionate...just incredible

Love all of the staff to pieces! They are amazing. I honestly can't say enough wonderful things about them! Dr Sherry has a heart of gold and is extremely knowledgeable

They have always been fantastic with our fur babies. Always take time to talk and explain things.

I agree... We have taken our animals to Dr Sherry for years. Staff are Awesome!!! And her rates are very reasonable.

I also agree that Wheat City is great! We've always taken our pets there and found the staff very caring, knowledgeable and belpful.

Wouldn't take my pets any where else. They've always been very understanding and friendly. Rates are reasonable and the care is worth noting.

People are saying either wheat city or grand valley. Considering Dr. Sherry used to work at grand valley. I think that speaks for itself. Either is fantastic.

At grand valley, there's a vet there that has misdiagnosed two animals causing them to be euthanized....I left there because of him.

Showing my support to Dr Barclay and staff at Brandon Animal Clinic. My 2 girls love going to see Dr B, she even saved one of their lives 2 summers ago. We left one of the above mentioned clinics several years ago after 3 issues and have never looked back.  
 
Maybe not the most recognized in this thread, but I wouldn't take my girls anywhere else.

I won't go anywhere else, it here. Taken all three dogs to either Dr. Barclay or Dr. Radcliffe. Awesome care, staff and facility.

Watch the prices if you care. Some are very high and seem to charge as much as they possible can. I can't name companies but ask up front, ask for final costs.

I left because of absolutely horrible care by the vet and clinic.

I'd like to know where you got your chihuahua if you could post the breeder. Thanks.

to Wheat City clinic Dr Sherry took care of my adorable old cat and made sure my cat isn't suffering and give me more time to spend with my cat before to put her down of cancer.  
The previous clinic I went to did not give anything for my cat she said my cat has 2 months to live and that is it and she wasn't handling my cat that greatly, of course cats will fight she should know and be prepared. With Dr Sherry my adorable cat had 2 pres:criptions and she handled my cat nicely every time. My old cat that I still do miss lived 4 months after diagnosed of cancer.

Has great clinic. Might be worth the drive.

Wheat City was not accepting new clients so Grand Valley was my second choice.  
 
Comment - Will be getting our pup from a community close to Winnipeg, had no luck finding what we wanted in Brandon.

in regards to a Vet in Brandon as I am not familiar with them - however I do have some suggestions. Whichever Vet you choose have them divide the vaccination between two injection sites. Chis' are small and having two injection sites will eliminate the lump which occurs when the vaccine is injected into one site. Even though the lump will disappear within 1-2 weeks there have been occasions when it has turned into an abscess. Finally - Chihuahuas are very intelligent animals - they know their cute and they know how to use their cuteness to manipulate their owner into getting what they want.

Misdiagnosed my dog too. I even asked the vet if my dog may have this condition. He said no. Turns out my dog did and so if this condition had been treated properly my dog would be here with me today. Anyways I still suggest going to them but specify on seeing a specific vet. I suggest dr.sempers, dr.beckwith, dr.grey, dr.dressell, dr.lovatt or Dr.robertson. My favourite are dr.sempers &dr.grey.

I like grand valley but ask for your vet specifically. I too have had a few not so pleasurable experiences with the vet the other people have. We have Dr Sempers as our vet and i refuse to see anyone other then her after those experiences. I actually now vet in neepawa. Its much more cost effective even after gas and i always get my vvet.

Take your pet outside of Brandon and get it done for half price!

I love the girls at Grand Valley but the vets keep changing & when I used to go there I never knew which vet I was getting.

She is in Brandon often, if not daily, and lives just south of Shilo (if anyone out that way needs her)

Dr Barklay & Dr Radcliffe are excellent. My cat prefers Barklay who is a little softer spoken but my puppy loves Radcliffe so I see both of them with my pets and I personally like them both as well as the assistants. They remember me and my pets and take their time as well, I've never felt rushed or like an inconvenience.  
 
I used to go to Grand Valley years ago but I felt very much like a number there and very rushed. Not to say that their level of customer care hasn't changed in the past years though either.
