please stay away from the turkeys. Today they were attack by two kids around 14-16 years old. The first attack was with the boys and a dog on my property, I banged on my window and they left.the second attack by the same boys involved golf clubs on my property. One young bird ended up with a broken leg which was picked up by by-law.the big male turkey is very upset and may attack if you get too close. I hope charges are going to be laid.

They did say the Turkeys could be pissed though. So stay away.

Sounds like a couple of boys need to be seen by the police..... animal cruelty should be dealt with.

Those turkeys have lived for years in the south end with relatively few problems. I have lived in this area for over 25 years and often see them walking across the back of our open yard. They caused no problems and were only trying to survive like all other living things. They did not deserve to be treated this way. What's next for these creeps..... a disabled child? They need to be charged because these so called boys are going to grow up. This is way beyond a childish prank. Sad

maybe someone should show them on what its like to be a turkey and get beaten if i would of seen that would not of been good

But the original post was a little hard to read. I was thinking the boys possibly defended themselves with the golf club, that's what was a bit confusing.

These kids attacked an animal with a golf club, and you wonder why the male is pissed this is so wrong, these turkeys wont attack unless provoked, so we are not getting the whole story. By-law needs to step up and get this sorted with the police, this is animal cruelty. If these are your kids you should be ashamed.

The turkeys were in my yard peacefully laying in my garden. When chased by these boys all the turkeys did was to run away, the turkeys did not attack the boys at all.

I am glad they dealt with the injured turkey but i hope they are also going to look into the issue of the boys who injured that turkey. That is animal cruelty and the boys need to be made aware that it is not acceptable. I would have been doing more than knock on the window-they would have got TOLD-and i fight back better than the turkeys would if the punks decided to go for me. Bad upbringing on these kids.

Were the boys caught? I sure hope so, sick people, those turkeys are harmless...

I hope these boys are caught but come on everyone, we all know these boys won't be charged or anything because they are under age. The only thing they will get is a stiff talking to and a pat on their butts and told to think before they do something like this again. They should be forced to help take care of that turkey (if it has not been put down)or some kind of community help. Do they do that with kids anymore? Community service?

The OP says they looked like they were 14-16 years old. That's old enough to be charged under the YOA at least. Will there be sufficiently serious consequences, who knows?  
 
I always just kinda hope that merely getting charged would be a wake-up call for these kids and their parents. Sadly, it's often not. I know if I did something that merited getting charged under the YOA growing up, I'd probably still be grounded!!

Maybe these kids should have a golf club punishment upon them. See if they like a driver to the shins.

I have seen people chase them near our house. The one time, it was an ADULT male and his dog. He was laughing. The second time it was kids chasing the turkeys. I didn't get a chance to say anything to the adult because he and the dog were running after the turkeys but I did yell at the kids to leave the turkeys alone.  
 
What is wrong with people? The turkeys that come around my house are not vicious (LOL). On occasion, they even come right up to me. The huge tom doesn't puff up or act aggressive. All they want to do is eat and lie in the sunshine.

So what has happened? The one turkey was taken away by the ACO? Is it ok? What is being done to protect these turkeys?  
 
Have the brats been charged? Maybe they should slapped with rubber chickens until welts appear.  
 
I might have missed it but I have seen nothing about this on the news or in the police reports. ? This is a crime in my opinion so where are the reports? This should not be one more thing in this city to be ignored.

The attack on the turkeys was deliberate with some forethought. I too have had the turkeys sunning in my backyard. Perhaps the Brandon Sun could do some investigative reporting to let people know what has happened....regarding the creeps who did this and what has happened to the one with the broken leg.

Abbysmum kids should be punished now days kids get away with a lot as for the turkeys the don't charge unless provoked especially the tom the hen usually runs away

Not sure why Manitoba Conservation is not investigating, as these are a protected gamebird that can only be hunted in season with a licence

So glad to know that arrests have been made and some consequences will face these two punks. Will they learn to respect life? I wonder, but maybe they will think twice before abusing an animal.

Takes a little more than just walking up and putting them in a container for transport. They can be trapped but it is difficult at times. Wildlife Clubs constantly are relocating turkeys. Here is a better idea. If kids or whoever cannot respect animals that are having their habitat taken over by humans.....why not relocate the humans. Problem solved.

The Media Release says the injured turkey was released. I can't imagine they would just toss an injured turkey into the bush but who knows!

that is just a stupid thing to do because of the charges they may end up in the future not being able to cross a border or go on a holiday, some day when they GROW UP! because of a police record. I know someone who was a teen and got caught for a petty theft and charged then years later was stopped and denied access like 40 years later! it''s good that the perps are being charged hopefully it will make others think twice what you do always has an effect and one day may come back like KARMA!
