Is there anywhere in Brandon that sells bird bath heaters? I guess a heated water dish would work but most are too deep.

I am an avid bird watcher and bird lover. I was going to get a bird bath heater too...but was told not a good idea because the birds get water: then ice on their feet. apparently birds get enough moisture from snow. Maybe Cal Cuthbertson that does the christmas bird count, would have some informed answers..or other bird watchers from this area...

I know where you are coming from 'happy camper.' I am actually just planning on using one while it is freezing but there is no snow. Years ago when I had chickens when the temps got well below freezing I preferred to give them snow rather than water for the same reason ( and before anyone pounces on me, chickens do very well with snow as long as there is lots of it). For now we are just putting warm water in the bird bath and the birds are anxious for it.

I would also try the pet stores.

depending on what kind you have, you may be able to drill it and put a light bulb inside of it. the bulb gives of some heat and would keep it from freezing until it gets real cold.

Might work for the bird bath.

I've bought my bird bath from there ...so has my Mom ..and we've ordered tons of stuff from this store. Totally awesome store ...ships from Ontario if I recall. Anyway ...here's a link to the bird baths we have ...and have had them for 4 years and still going strong!

Thank you so much for all of your suggestions. I will check all of them out although the light bulb suggestion won't work for my birdbath but wanted to mention it as it is how my husband keeps the cattle water bowls from freezing.

Snow may be adequate but I've started keeping a heated pet dish out for the birds because if I don't I find drowned birds the water trough. I think they prefer water to snow.

I think it is the whole bird bath though.
