Anyone else having power bumps in town?  
 
Instead of the usual going dimmer our lights have been going brighter (surge)  
 
We've had 4 in the last hour, and I'm curious if it's just us!

Apparently there’s a power outage somewhere in the west end.

Power is out in the West end. Just one side of Riverheights that I'm on. It's been out for about 7 hours now and crews have been working hard to fix it. Transformers and underground are the words they said.

-50 C?? What forecast have you been looking at?

When you factor in the wind chill. It's on the Weather Network website for tonight and tomorrow morning.

It really is a pretty big difference between -50* C and a windchill value of -50 C. I think it's pretty misleading to just throw out a -50* C temp. Some, I think, just do it to make it sound a lot worse than it truly is.

Anyone know if power is back on in river heights yet? We are waiting at someone else’s house for the power to come back in and unsure if it is yet.

Fargo bob if you walked a mile tonight i bet you would believe its that cold. A house cools off damn fast when the power goes out and it's this cold. Hopefully they get the power back on.

It's kind of a pet peeve of mine. As someone who in the past has had to spend a lot of time outside, as well as one who likes to be outside, in the extreme cold it's important to understand what the conditions really are.  
 
The actual temp, as well as the windchill value give a person the information needed to dress appropriately to be both safe and comfortable when being outside for extended time periods. Simply stating that it's -50* C doesn't help much with that.  
 
Stay informed, dress properly, and try and enjoy your time outside. It's not really too bad if you're prepared for it. Some people do seem to be more affected by the cold than others are though, so I wont be surprised if some folks don't want to venture out on days like today. Stay warm.

Manitoba Hydro added an outage map a couple of months ago. The outage in River Heights is no longer on there so I would assume it has been fixed.

Its always nice to get straight forward answers. Page is saved on my desktop now.
