We recently moved into a new place and the mail delivery is in the back lane. I've lived in a few different places in the city and never had back lane delivery before. I'm not complaining at all.... Just wondering how common this is in Brandon?  
 
Also, does anyone know the reason for it? I'm not curious enough to waste Canada Post's time by calling in and getting transferred to a million different people to find out... Just generally curious if anyone else knows.

Are you on 17th street? If so it's probably easier than delivering off of 18th.

No, we're not. Our street is incredibly quiet... very little traffic.  
 
It would make sense for busier streets though now that you mention it.  
 
Edited to add: we actually have friends that live two or three blocks north of us (on the same street) that have front door mail delivery, which is why I find it quite odd.

for sure, so do you have your mail box attached to the rear fence. in which case you have a long way to go to get mail and it is hanging on the lane side, not very secure. or does the posty have to walk through the back yard to get to the mail box on the back of the house.  
 
i would go down to the post office on Douglas ave and talk with staff there, they have always seemed to be knowledgable and helpful there.  
 
I have seen a few new condos in town that have the boxes at the rear rather than the front.I always thought that was for the street appeal look.

Our mailbox is located on the backlane side of our fence. We have a fenced in yard and a large dog that is outside the majority of the day, so I'm not comfortable with the delivery person walking through our yard. Yes, we have to walk to get the mail... not a big deal... security of our mail could be an issue since anyone walking up or down the lane could quickly take our mail without being noticed. Maybe they'd be super nice and pay our bills for us if someone ever decides to steal our mail!  
 
I think some of the houses on our block that don't have fenced yards have the mailbox on their home, so the delivery person walks through their yard to the house.  
 
I'm sure it would be a difficult thing to change since most of the houses on our block don't have mailboxes at the front door and it's probably been this way for a long time. Like I said though, we haven't had any issues so far so it's not a concern for me... Just curiosity on my part!

But when I moved to the city years ago I remember being amazed that people got their mail delivered to their house lol. I’m from a small town where we have a post office. To me that makes way more economical sense than having door to door delivery especially when Canada post always struggled to stay afloat.

Canada Post has been profitable for 20 of the last 22 years, including the past four years. It was not profitable in 2011 because management locked out its workforce and lost a lot of business. Since the mid-1990s, Canada Post has put over a billion dollars in profits back into the public purse.
