Why aren’t the streets being sanded in Brandon? It is very slippery. From what I’ve heard, the vehicles for snow clearing & sanding are contracted out and the city has them all year whether or not it snows.  
I drive for my job and many city intersections are ice covered

You better invest in better tires and driving habits because the city of brandon doesnt do anything during winter time that makes sense.  
 
They will be out in a week after it warms up and the ice melts on the roads but its that point they will send out the sand trucks.

Send him an email. Hides in the back wing, lets these things slide and tells us our taxes will only go up a small amount which is great but our services have dropped. However I agree maybe change a few driving habits now that you know the roads are icy.

None of the city snow clearing and sanding, other than a few parking lots, is contracted out. City trucks were out yesterday’s sanding intersections and street and I’m sure there out there again today. Just take it easy driving and you shouldn’t have a problem.

Why do people feel the need to attack?!  
I was simply stating that many roads aren’t sanded as i see it  
 
I’m driving out here regularly and Im stating that many intersections aren’t sanded.  
 
Weve had less snow and more cold conditions leading to icier roads: therefore the sanding trucks and not snow clearing trucks should be out there sanding all major intersections and minor Street roads.  
 
I wonder where people feel the need to tell people to adjust their driving conditions...nowhere does it state that I’m driving like a maniac nor rushing to be places... i’m simply stating the roads are very icy and I’m not seeing sand  
I also witnessed an accident at McDonald’s and 26 street the other day  
That intersection is at the bottom of a hill and the intersection is pure ice

I'm not sure about all of the streets in Brandon, but we live on a hill in the East End and I am constantly impressed how well the city has kept our streets sanded over the last few years. It seems they come around every week, and always when it snows. It never used to be like that, and I've slid past my driveway and down the hill more times than I'd care to count, but haven't in the past 2-3 years. I know I really appreciate the frequent sanding in our end of town! I hope everyone around the city who needs it gets the same service.

Ive see lots of city trucks with blue flashing lights too in The last while; upon coming closer they are clearing snow off the sides. I haven’t seen sanding; if they’re sanding now in the last couple of days, that’s great but it could’ve been done a lot sooner

Our roads are sanded. The problem is it doesn't last long as people need to constantly spin their tires which doesn't make the sand last too long. Driving habits are mentioned because if everyone adjusted their habits and slowed down or didn't spin constantly we wouldn't have slippery intersections.

The trucks that come through our neighbourhood have 100% definitely been spreading stuff. It might be worth a quick call to the city or your councillor to make sure you aren’t inadvertently getting missed... or to make sure that they know why your neighbourhood should be a priority.

I don't find the streets that bad lately. I thought they shouldn't bothering sanding 2 weeks ago when it was warm out.

Yes some of the streets and intersections are a little slick lately but I haven't had any problems. My car is Avery good on ice and I have good tires. Sadly Brandon drivers generally have no respect for stopping distance-not at intersections and not when changing lanes in traffic. It is odd how I can be keeping my stopping distance behind the car ahead and some Yahoo in the other lane speeds up and darts in front of me, causing both of us to have no safe stopping distance if the front guy should brake-yet there is no one behind me for 3 blocks. Why is it so important to dart in and get ahead of me when you could get behind? It isnt as if I'm driving slow - I am generally not the slow car in the line.

What does the city use for "sand"?  
 
Only day it was slippery was Sunday, pretty simple to drive accorded to conditions.  
 
LOTS of sanding trucks around,  
 
Just Wish in the spring street sweeping program the city starts with the bus routes.

I agree, the streets are very icy! Some of the “main” roads arent bad but side streets and residential areas are definitely not getting the sanding they need. I noticed SO MANY sanding trucks out through december and would see one drive down our street almost every night with the blue flashing lights, i havent seen anything lately. It seems the city used up all of their sanding budget in december and now that its really needed and we still have lots of winter to go, we arent getting the sanding as much! There was even a thread in here somewhere saying the sanding trucks were out TOO MUCH. And now theyre hardly anywhere to be seen....

sanding truck just went along the avenue. For the past two weeks we have seen front end loaders and plows and huge trucks full of snow working the streets, every single day! How have services dropped?  
 
The colder the weather the harder the snow is packed on the road.

were doing pretty good. roads were well sanded before this latest little hard freeze and wind which makes it harder for the sand to stick to where it's put.  
 
our street was recently done but now with the cold and wind and braking action the area just before the intersection is slick.  
 
but you can see the slippery spots if your looking.  
i darn near slide through one today and I have pretty good winter ice radials on.  
 
slipping into neutral helps too.

Here's a thought... drive normally ( don't speed or tailgate ) and let's leave the truck scheduling and routes to the people who get paid to do their jobs which is determine the necessity and frequency of sanding shifts.  
 
While everyone is playing armchair general with the City's staff and equipment, the people who get paid to take care of our streets are battling your criticisms which only add to the stress of divining weather patterns and scheduling equipment accordingly.

I agree, it’s very slippery out and some intersections are more slick than others that have been sanded. Those ones not sanded are terrifying! If you don’t know to break extra early, you could be in for a treat! A heart pumping luge ride straight into traffic

I have found the city to be very responsive when you call or email a specific concern. I do currently find some side streets to be icier than others. Let them know and I bet it gets done soon. Issues I have reported in the past is addressed in a day or two if it is a safety concern. Kudos to city workers!
