What is the best android system for Manitoba? I need the CTV news twice a day, but the rest of cable or Shaw is unnessecary for me. What do you suggest for an older fellow without a smart tv?

I would get a HTC/Google Pixel 2 or thereabouts. I have a friend who recommends it.

I dropped cable and went to an android box. I can stream news from CBC, CTV and CBC's Olympic coverage, plus lots more. I use a box with a mini keyboard and it's easy and fun. This system looks promising, base on consistently high review ratings.

The best android TV box going is the NVIDIA Shield TV. Granted, it's a little more expensive than the generic boxes, but it's powerful, stable and is updated on a regular basis by it's well-known manufacturer. I've had other android boxes before, and this one beats them all.

You have to install a web browsing app and then navigate to the news web site to stream from there. You can also install the network's own app on the device, or, if you have it installed on your phone, you can "cast" from the phone to the NVIDIA device as it has Chromecast built in. Lots of ways to go. Kodi also has addons that will connect you to the network video feeds... and yes, it's perfectly legal as you are streaming content that has been made publicly available by the networks.

Not just use you computer, lap top, tablet or what ever you use for internet. Save your self money and just stream your news from what ever station you want. You will be able to watch your shows 24/7 at your convenience and not at the broadcast time they decide.  
I cut the cord 15 years ago and not regretted it.

What @Lowkey said - and with a HDMI cable from the laptop or pc, you can watch it all on the big tv too! Inexpensive HDMI cables can be found at Princess Auto.
