Yesterday I rode my bicycle across the new 1st Street Bridge on the West side and I could not believe the condition it has been left in. There are nails all over the ground and lots of gravel/debris. Why didn't they clean sweep it once they finished it?  
 
I'd hate for a child to walk across and pick up an old rusty nail off the ground.

Well how long have you been able to cross over it without the ice and snow? I am sure when street cleaning is coming up things will be cleaned. There are a lot of garbage and debris becoming exposed this time of year. As for rusty nails go around any construction site in this city and there will be nails. There are a lot more kids around these construction sites than I see crossing the first street bridge.

The snow and Ice has been cleared regularly I believe from the paths. Not a major deal but I wish the city had a machine like the Hospital does.  
 
That gets right down to the surface and sweeps snow and debris right off the surface instead of leaving an inch or two like the sidewalk plow does.

Although it may look like they are finished, they still have stuff left to do once it warms up. I'm sure clean-up will happen once the job is complete. Just because the new bridge is open it does not mean they are 100% done. Instead of riding your bike through a construction zone and complaining about nails, why don't you choose to ride your bike elsewhere? There are lots of other paths to choose from.

This is in the vein of that old joke. A guy wins 2 million in a lottery but complains it is not 3 million. Like some mentioned work is not done. I will add this bridge is under the care and watch of highways so that is who you call. Also I think once it is clean not much cleaning will be done after. In the city our walk that is a block from a school has yet to be city cleaned in 9 years. I think other than heavy routes cleaning is probably complaint driven. I suggest to give highways some time before you call. We have new bridge and there has yet to be a official opening. Give those guys a break.

It wouldn't surprise me if there's nails etc. lying around. It will likely not get cleaned up until they are officially done with the construction. Maybe contact the highways department about it.  
 
Personally, I don't take my bike out until it gets to +10 afterwards and maybe after a decent rain to wash away the gravel. By then, the street cleaners be out. Bike riding season will start be a bit later then usual this year for me but I can deal with it.
