I’m sure many residents have gone through this ordeal. Happened to me recently. Needless to say it is not a pleasant time with our water. However what really makes me angry is getting a bill from the City of Brandon for $75. Just to turn off and later on the curb stop which took all of 10 seconds. I was right beside the guys when they did so. Plus $18.00 administrate fee on top of that. This is something that they do in their job des:cription almost every day . It wasn’t overtime it was during regular working hours . Has anyone else gone through this?

If you had to call manitoba hydro to come to your house and disconnect the power, would you expect that to be free?

The first thing I'm going to say is that I'm totally ignorant on the details and process within the city. Question is, where does the property owner become responsible for the supply line, and is the property owner allowed to put a shutoff valve in at this point. As for the hydro aspect, we live in a rural area, and we do have a main breaker that allows us to disconnect the power to the complete yard with no call to hydro or any cost to shut it off or turn it on.

Well I will tell you what I expect . I expect that when I pay taxes that I will get services , not additional charges . The taxes go up every year the services don’t .

My house has the street shutoff valve located under the lawn. In my case they would have to locate and dig a bit to reach the valve. Two trips for $93 doesn't sound bad especially if your basement is flooding.

That would suck to have a water break in winter with everything frozen. I think that would be a nice bill having to locate and then dig through frozen ground to get to a shut off valve. I didn't think you could burry the valve. Most I see have a sewer tube around it for simplicity.

My basement was not flooding the water was running on my lawn. All I’m saying is isn’t this in their job des:cription ? They do this type of work everyday and are paid well to do so. Also it was done within regular working hours. I asked them if they would come at 4:30 when the plumber was going to be there . Nope no way that’s too close to quitting time so I had to call them again the next day. Anyway it is what it is. The customer usually gets the shaft.
