Anyone shocked at the condition of the course this year? No flooding to deal with for once but now it''s the greens. There are 2 maybe 3 greens on the course that are good, the rest are covered in dead spots...some are borderline unplayable. How did this manage to happen ?  
They raised the price of memberships, and are hosting a bunch of tournaments. Sad and embarassing for Brandon

I haven't played there this year, but I've heard that a lot of courses are having trouble with their greens. Heard Minnedosa is really bad, and there's weren't great last year either.  
 
I can say that Shilo's greens are in really good shape.

The greens at the Wheat City golf course are almost all terrible. The worst ones are on the first 11holes. They are very dry, very hard, dead looking and for some reason cut very short. Approach shots take big bounces and roll over the green. Putting is challenging.  
 
It doesn’t look they have been watered very much at all. Some of them have had pieces of sod placed in them to help fill in the dead spots but it appears that sod was allowed to dry out and die.  
 
I think the fact that the greens were constructed with clay and silt from the floods rather than a sandy mixture may have contributed to the sad shape they are in.  
 
I have been to Shilo and Oak Island and their greens are mostly very good. Any bad patches there have been overseeded, watered and verti- cut to allow them to soften up and get the grass growing.  
 
It’s too bad about the Wheat City greens. The fairways are in decent shape. Some are really good.

There is no excuse for the shape of the greens as they should have unlimited water there. The terriable shape makes people think it’s okay to just leave there divots as there is more divots on those greens then I have ever seen. Is there an actual greens keeper at this course? Or just some city flunky doing on job training as that is what it looks like to me. As for the price increase the city should be ashamed of itself as the course ain’t even as good as it was last year so how do they justify the price increase. Come on city you don’t want to sell it so step up and get someone that knows what is going on looking after the course

I agree, I think the course is out of excuses now and just needs to be better. Get some people down there that know what they are doing instead of hourly city employees farting around.

i agree that the greens are basically unplayable. Unfortunately they already have my money for the year.  
Maybe instead of complaining to the deaf ears of the city, the complaints should go to the people investing millions to develop the area around the course.  
I'm sure the city has some sort of an obligation to provide a quality course in return for the significant tax revenue they will receive.

It's called winterkill. With the minimal snow and the brutal cold weather of this past winter, I would say after only being open for the past six week most course are doing all they can. They didn't have april to work with. The grass on the greens is delicate. A month from now it will be a non issue. Just think about it for a moment.

Have you played the course to see them for yourself ? Those spots are not just coming back with a little water, luck and sunshine man! They are dead as dead  
 
Shilo, clear lake, oak island are all fine

Not sure I understand why the chamber golf tournament is not on a Brandon golf course.

Brandon Chamber of Commerce always rotates its tournament around to golf courses that are members of the Chamber which Minnedosa is! I think that is a great practice on their part!  
 
Minnedosa is also not in poor shape as some (who have not played the course..) pointed out. Much the opposite, great conditions.  
 
Some courses are struggling with conditions this year which is to be expected with the harsh winters we get in Manitoba. Give them time before hitting the panic button.

We went and tried Wheat City yesterday morning and it was great.  
Come on people are we all that unpleaseable?  
They have 10 crews out doing what they can to make the course even better. I have to say hats of to Wheat city and deer ridge for doing what they have done with what nature threw at them..

The greens have some winterkill but that is not their main problem at all.  
 
I have since heard they had problems with their pump and were not able to water the greens. Combined with a long stretch of hot dry and windy weather the greens dried out.  
 
That’s too bad. Hopefully we can get a bit of rain and the irrigation system does it’s job and the greens recover.
