How does everybody else live these days. Rentals are so expensive. My family and i have been looking for affordae 2-3 bedroom.place for months that is car friendly and have found nothing. Anybody know of anything maybe a few minutes out of town thats available? This housing situation is getting out of hand.

Lots of 2-3 bedroom apartments on here, I’m sure they all have available parking.

Think they meant cat friendly?... Maybe apply to be on MB housing list? Do you have a steady income/ good credit? Could could apply for the new program that gives you a down payment for a house. If your into buying a house.

I did mean cat friendly. Applying for mb housing is to long of a wait we need to find a place for aug or september. I have looked into that habitat for humanity but with my boyfriend work schedule he wont have the time to help and unfortunately i cant...

You will likely have to apply, and the waiting lists might also be excessive. Also, it's been a long time since I had to find an apartment that allows cats, so things may have changed at these complexes.

You said affordable outside the city.  
Did you factor in hydro gas heat whatever. Insurance as well. Sometimes it’s more money...

Usually renting out of town is cheaper i know when i rented a house in rivers it was only 500 a month plus hydro.. obviously thats to far to communite to work and back everyday...

Yeah, housing is expensive. We've been in our house for 8 years, and we sure couldn't afford it now if we had to buy. Part of the problem is that there's not enough rental housing, so prices are at a premium. Also, property is expensive to buy, so the owners have to charge enough to cover expenses and make a small profit.  
 
Hope you find something. It's tough, especially with an animal in the mix. Are you in a position to buy? That's ultimately what I did years ago instead of trying to find a rental to accomodate my pet. Even just a cheap trailer, it might be cheaper and easier than renting in the long run if you can scrape together the down payment.

Someone listed apartment complexes in Brandon. None of them take animals.

Yes don't choose your rental by what is closest to your kids schools, your work, transit routes, recreation or crime rates. Gets anything where you can have a pet.

TO be honest.. its quite simple. If I were in your situation and I wanted a roof on my head by renting, I would get rid of my cat or any animal.  
 
I rather have a place to stay for myself and my family then to be rejected because if the animal situation.  
 
Then once I can afford a house, I would get an animal.

There are pet friendly apartments on Tracy street for rent. I don’t know if it’s posted anywhere but they have signs up.

Never really understood why people would acquire a living creature, without the means to take care of them...buy a place THEN get a pet...

There is no way that I could get rid of my pet. Keep looking and you will find something. Landlords are in a bit of dilemma because there are very good pet owners and then there are the other kind. I wish you well in your search.

Some times pets are acquired in other ways than just going out and getting one. I agree that if I had to choose shelter for my kid or shelter for my cat we all would choose kid but animals are family members also. Sometimes landlords will take extra damage deposit if you have a pet and only one pet and don't aquire any more while renting.

but it is the damage they could still do to an rental. Pet and accidents, they happen. Or a neighbor or the next person renting has allergies and everything has be tore out and replaced. When cleaning you never get all the hair and dander.  
 
I waited 10 years to get a cat, until I had my own home. I always had a cat growing up, but I knew until I was settled I would not own one.  
 
What if you get a rental that will let you have pets and a couple of months down the road, you realize, wow...it is just too expensive and you have to start looking again.  
 
So many things can happen when you are renting and it is not fair to the cat, as much as I realize they are part of the family.

Yes the Cost of Rent may be cheaper, But you have to factor in a lot of other costs. I Moved to a small town last year and while my mortgage and taxes are about half what theyd be in Brandon, Once you factor in fuel, vehicle maintenance, travel time, groceries and what not you could end up paying as much or more.

unfortunately your taking a big risk buying a pet and not owning a place. I bought a pet right after I finally bought a house, Even though I wanted one renting I can see where landlords are coming from not wanting to deal with pets in there rentals.

Is great, but not any cheaper. Factor in insurance costs. If you are outside the city and more than 13 kms from a fire station, insurance is waaaaay higher. When we looked our current places the owners told us it was just over $1200 for insurance. Low and behold, it wasn't, and we are closer to $2500 per year. Factor in higher gas for travel, and lost work days due to being stuck at home due to being snowed in during rough winter days,and you really aren't much better off. Plus, there is the cost of rural internet, and security cameras you should look into for costs.  
Land taxes can be way lower outside the city though, so at least there's that.

It took me a long time to find affordable pet friendly accommodations. Have been in my apartment for 3 and a half years because I have pet friendly. It can be done! Get an affordable landlord list and call all of them. Someone is bound to have something. I would never give up my cats because I have to move. It's not an option. I move with my cats or I don't move. Plain and simple. I rescued them and they will live their lives with me. That is what responsible pet owners do. Not just abandon them because they have to move. So good on the op for reaching out. It's difficult but can be done!

As someone who is currently attempting to rent their home out: I need to cover my mortgage, land taxes, insurance, and be able to have a bit to put aside for repairs.  
 
I love pets and I have my own. I was a renter too who found it difficult. That being said, we aren’t pet friendly as it can cause a lot of issues- no matter how well behaved a pet is, there can be accidents, etc. Plus if the next person has allergies, you’re paying to have ducts cleaned, etc.
