Stuff happens....let it go...I am sure they are fine

she apologized - explained the situation. What more do you want?  
 
Harsh at the moment as she was probably frustrated, but she apologized - what more?  
 
I don't see where she is blaming anyone, as I read it over four times.

The dog owner apologized and took responsibility for the incident and his reaction. He did the right thing by owning it.

on you for going 8 blocks in sock feet to catch your dog! I know how frustrating it can be when the little (or not so little) buggers get away from you and refuse to listen because there are so many new things to see and smell!

You have never had a dog get out on you, it happens it’s embarrassing and frustrating especially after having to chase it down, there was an apology issued, so why are you bringing more drama to this situation than there needs to be? It’s not like it was intentional for the dog to get out. It didn’t “attack” anyone, from what I can tell from the post. Maybe taking up your concerns with negligent owners of both dogs and cats maybe more beneficial.

So you are driving down the road hit a pot hole and you tire blows you crash your car and hit someone. Should you be charged with assault, it was not your fault but you are supposed to be in control... she is a great dog owner took responsibility was accountable and apologized. Most people blame absolutely everything else around them.

It was an accident and not done on purpose. Big cudos to the person that apologized. Stuff happens all the time.......no need to berate the poor person for an accident.

Good job and not a worry! At least you can say sorry unlike some people ................. (the little dog who died has not received an apology)

Likely not! Dogs and even kids for that matter get away from us, mistakes happen. Sometimes bad things happen as a result but its labeled an accident for a reason. He ran after his dogs which is more then some people would have done. Dogs get into flight mode and they keep going sometimes. This can even happen to the most trained dog. He apologized publicly, mistakes and accidents happen. Gotta love Brandon and their keyboard warriors who think they are better then everyone else! Accidents happen unfortunately.

You do have to be careful every time you open a gate. My yard is well fenced and the dogs usually stand back while I come and go. Not this time. The entire incident lasted for 15-20 sec. they ran across a field and out of sight. I called them and they came right back.  
When a dog gets loose the worst thing you can do is chase them because then it becomes a game to them. I will stand my ground or if needed run the other way calling the dogs to play.

It is nice to see someone take responsibility for their own actions. We are all human w e all make mistakes. May you find it in yourself to forgive yourself. Wishing you all peace.

Interesting everyone’s attitude regarding this post.. It was only a few days ago there was a violent attack on the elderly lady and her small dog.  
 
I get things happen but this could have been a repeat situation. I feel for the innocent people walking down the street or who are in the area and get accosted by a strange dog they don’t know the temperament of. Dogs can be unpredictable so it is important for the owners to make sure to have control and be responsible pet owners. You made the decision to be a pet owner so make sure you’re up for the work that comes with it.

I am extremely careful with my dogs and they have good recall. But still they got loose for a few seconds. The OPs dog probably kept running for 8 blocks because Hey Dad is right behind me woohooo!!!!  
 
But isn’t this just life?! How many people make the decision to text or talk on cellphones while driving , drive intoxicated or distracted looking back at two kids fighting and well nothing happens. Then they keep doing it until the one time They hit someone. If they are lucky that someone is only mildly hurt if they are not lucky they seriously hurt or killed a person. They go to jail for manslaughter. It wasn’t intentional.  
The two Dogs being held for killing that poor dog and knocking that lady over have gotten out before. Have they ever hurt anyone before this event? I don’t think anyone said anything about that in that thread. Maybe they are the sweetest dogs ever but while they were out they were hyped up and the little dog barked a high pitch bark triggering prey drive in the bigger dogs. Causing them to come at the little dog. Once prey drive is triggered most dogs can no longer follow commands as they are too ramped up. And this can happen to any dog!  
 
I guess my point is that life happens. Most of us try to be careful. While other people ram through life like no body’s business. Either person could kill a person tomorrow just because of a lack of attention. It can happen to any of us. So none of us should be too quick to judge others. The OP didn’t have to apologize about his mistake even though nothing happened. The owner of the two Dogs impounded likely to be put to sleep may be the most lovely person but she made a mistake and will pay for her lack of attention to the needs of these two dogs.

Let’s say that this is the first time dog got out, does that automatically make the OP an irresponsible pet owner?

Good on Ms. Robert D. Brown for apologizing, the majority of people wouldn't. It happens nothing you can do but say sorry. Train man must live a pretty perfect little life.

My yard is well fenced and the dogs are well socialized. However, despite our best efforts there have been occasions where Hydro or a neighbour has come in and left the gate unlatched and doggies have escaped. Thankfully our neighbours all know them and have brought them back but there is one dog that totally bolts and runs like a rabbit, yelling at everyone how proud she is to be free.  
 
I totally understand that a stranger wouldn’t know she is barking to say HEY I’m excited and coming to lick you all over.  
I get the OP’s apology because it absolutely could happen to any dog owner or anyone that fosters dogs like me.

was an accident. The dog escaped which resulted in the owner chasing same in sock feet for 8 blocks. Its not like the dog was running loose for several hours. Given the situation I consider the individual to be a very responsible pet owner. The only mistake the poster made was coming on ebrandon to apologize.
