I can't pronounce or spell the name of that man made lake by Rivers. Twice this month I have been there trying to fish and both times I was stupid enough to wash the sweat out of my stinging eyes after swooshing some of the algae away. Both times I have come home with an eye infection that requires attention.Does anyone know what the offending substance is?

Clearly you’re not much of a fisherman are you ? If you were you would know that fishing in the hottest time of the summer is not productive and not smart . The water on lake Watapanah is thick with thick blue green algae that is stagnant like most lakes this time of year with the hot weather that we’ve had. Really would you want to eat a fish out of that algae thick water? Do yourself a huge favour and wait till mid September when the water clears up to do your fishing .

The algea will go down maybe 10 feet in the water or until there isnt enough light for it to grow. The blue green algae if thick enough can be seen on fish finders. Beaches can actually be closed and swimming not recommended when blue green algae becomes very bad. If your keeping the fish to eat then just fish in deep water, which you will want to anyway this time of year.

It’s toxic. We had an family dog die there after drinking the water a few weeks ago. Online advisory’s are stated, and a sign is posted at the beach.
