As of Jan 1/ 2014, the title 'pharmacy technician' is protected. Which means that 'on the job training' is limited and not the same as in the past:
Pathways to Pharmacy Technician Regulation
While all pharmacy technician applicants must meet the same competencies, there are essentially two pathways to registration.
Graduates of a CCAPP accredited pharmacy technician program (Option A); and
Individuals who are currently employed and qualify through prior work experience in pharmacy (Option B).
As of November 27, 2017, the College Council has set a deadline for the Option B pathway of December 31, 2019. Individuals pursuing Option B must complete and submit all requirements for listing as a pharmacy technician in Manitoba by December 31, 2019. After December 31, 2019, all applicants wishing to become pharmacy technicians will be required to have graduated from an accredited pharmacy technician education program.
The process to becoming a pharmacy technician in Manitoba may differ based on the individual’s current qualifications and experience.
