There is a guide in the paper. Really society of elderly people are going to collapse due to the tv guide not being published in the Sun? And Seniors were going to see an increase of broken hips due to Canada Post moving to super mail boxes and eliminating home delivery. Last I checked tv has a guide built into the system. It gives you all the channels and what is on them. Fantastic little free tv listing that gives you the what's on what's just like that. And for no extra dollars it allows people to see what is playing one day from now, two days from now, etc. You would have to wait for the paper for the next day to know what is going on. Paper is getting old and outdated. Digital is the way to go. If you are still wondering it is a button on your remote labeled "Guide" probably.  
 
Don't worry, I think Seniors will be just fine.

I'll try explaining that to the 103 year old that I visit with 4 times a week. (No need for sarcasm). Your insight is appreciated though.

Some seniors do rely on the tv schedule in the paper, despite what fishing guy thinks he knows about seniors. Some do not use the internet that extensively, nor do they use the tv remote enough to bother with the on screen guide. But who cares, they just do t need to watch tv I guess, or at least not programs of their choosing?  
 
Guess our family will probably drop our subscription. The tv listing is the main reason we subscribe-because yes there is a senior in our home and she appreciates the tv guide.

The on screen guide is only available if you have some form of cable package. For the rural residents who rely on over the air broadcasts, tough luck.

they have heard of a program they want to watch, but are not sure of the channel or the time.....so I find it hard to think that they will sit there with their remotes and scroll through all the days and channels to find the show.  
 
We have done that and I believe you can only go ahead a couple of days anyway.  
 
That is too bad, I know a few that would rather read it and see it in the paper.

If there was a large group of people with a need there are always solutions. I don't know how much the Sun was getting from TV Guide but if nothing well I am sure they have done some research on how much it costs to print vs the impact on subscribers. TV Guide is online, you have a guide feature on your cable, printed is getting obsolete. I know lots of elderly people too and they can work their guides and computers very well. The comment of not working the tv remote very well and need to rely on the printed guide. Ironic they turn on the tv, input channels, probably volume, but the struggle is there to press a pre programmed guide button and scroll up and down, left and right for times. Sorry if I see the majority of our seniors as able body people still capable of continued learning.

The paper keeps getting smaller and smaller..pretty soon it won’t be worth buying.

For sure but perhaps some other Paper will still have a paper tv guide. You could buy the Paper weekly for the senior in question.

an uncaring & insensitive attitude you present. Of course people care about seniors! There are many of them in our city & many MANY in personal care homes here. Of course a lot are out & about & "capable of continued learning " : it's my sincere hope that you get to be one of them eventually & not have to rely on any type of assistance, as so many do, like having a family member or Aide highlife their evening's "watching" in the TV guide. Good health & mind is a blessing!!

Nothing to do with luck: we pay over $100.00 for it for 6 months delivery & most of the news in it was in yesterday's Winnipeg newspaper. However, everything's getting cut back. Most people understand that I think.

Sure we are lucky. That is dirt cheap. Less than 70 cents a day to have a paper delivered? I couldn't start my vehicle and run to the closest store for that price. As for the news in the Winnipeg paper......the Sun is owned by the Free Press.

You can be right if it feels better for you. I knew the Sun is owned by the Free Press: all I said was that was with most news articles, the Sun is a day behind. My initial point was about the TV guide which seemed to elicit some disdain for less than mobile, hale & hearty older people. Let's leave it alone.

I said seniors were brought up about having to use super mail boxes.

So doesn't that tell me that out of the 75% of people over 56 roughly 62% have the TV Guide as the least favorite feature? Please will someone educate me on this math? I can''t seem to understand how popular the TV Guide is to older people.

I am just pointing out that seniors seem to always be brought out as a quick excuse not to do something. So call me what you want. I just regurgitate info even providing links. 2016 Brandon Stats have almost 25,000 people over the age of 50. Honestly I cannot see a large number of them going to the Sun for the tv guide.

goodness, you just can't let it go, can you!? Now you've gone to suggesting that anyone over age 50 or even 56 are the age group the OP was suggesting might be affected most? That age group aren't "seniors". The OP also acknowledged that the guide took up a lot of space & was only sharing a thought that obviously doesn't correspond with yours. I believe that's allowed, no?

Wait until you are 90 and see how easy it is for you to figure out technology that you only started using when you were 89  
(Ie the new satellite system)...and may you thin know the joy of tottering into the television room only to discover when you turn on the TV that you missed your favorite show because it was on an hour early tonight. And you're too crippled to bother going back and forth to check the TV schedule on the TV so that you are sure not to miss your favorite show when it's on at an unusual time. Good luck with that.

That's when I feel bad, when it's a senior! If my dad was still here he would be royally pissed at the weather channel right now! I can't even stand looking at it any more!!

My grandmother is 87. Like many 87-year-olds, her eyesight is not great. She couldn't read a TV Guide if she needed to.  
 
You know what she had? A remote control for her cable box that she can talk into. She says, "Weather", and it brings her to the Weather Network. She says "Golf", and it shows her what's on, and when it's on next (in very large font on her TV screen). Wants to record her favourite show? "Record", and it's done. She loves it.  
 
A lot of technology these days geared for the Boomers and Seniors are extremely simple to use. The TV Guide is obselete.

The op stated for seniors in personal care home and I know that seniors in home would not know when there shows are on without a tv guide. When my mom was in the hospital her and her roommates asked me daily what was in CTV that night etc and they ranged in age from 60-95... It keeps bordom away

Another one of the few that gets the point I was making. It's all well & good to say the "guide" is obsolete :. not quite yet for an awful lot of people I think.

The TV listing is one of the first things I look for in the paper, and NO I am not a senior! I work two jobs and before I leave for work each day I record the shows I want to see when I have a day off. Not anymore I guess. And yes I have a guide on my TV but who has the time to sit there and scroll from page to page? I also spend quite a bit of time visiting at the hospital and get asked all the time if I can help someone look something up in the guide. Time to cancel my subscription - there are other useless parts of the paper they could get rid of, not tv guide!
