The media is reporting "Cannabis Edibles Found Near Schoolyards"  
 
EXTREMELY misleading headlines.  
 
CBD will not get a person high. It is used mainly to alleviate anxiety and pain. It is not psychoreactive.  
 
As soon as some people see the word "cannabis" they automatically assume all kinds of not so true beliefs:  
 
THC is the chemical that gets a person high not CBD. Trace amounts of THC is probably less dangerous to children than "near beer" is.  
 
Needle are found daily by schoolyards, in larger numbers - why aren't we "sensationalizing" that fact???  
 
I would suggwest people get some education regarding cannabis, CDB, and THC.

Although you can buy CBD edibles that contain enough THC to get you high, the product in question is not one of them and more than likely is derived from hemp oil, not cannabis oil.

I can hardly wait for the media warnings about "potheads" potentially handing out THC laced candies for Halloween. I guarantee CTV News Winnipeg and the Brandon Sun will both post/print (false and fear mongering) stories about that. :/

CBD edibles that contain enough THC to get a person high are labelled as such. The packages in question state: "May contain trace amount of THC" - a legal requirement because they are produced in the same facility as THC edibles. It does not mean they have THC in them and if they do, it is negligible.  
 
I have no idea why someone would leave these "lying around" but they are safer than a lot of precription drugs, alcohol, and even off the shelf non-precription medication.

Yes, and they have to be labelled as such. The ones found aren't. There is nothing to worry about if it says "may contain trace amounts"

For all we know it could have been some teenage kid who took a few of their parents gummies for pain relief and thought they’d be cool to bring them to school. (It didn’t say elementary school right?) The possibilities of what really happened are plenty but I highly doubt anyone will be handing out pot gummies for Halloween.  
 
Anyone else annoyed with all the pot talk lately....there are literally people dying every day from meth and even pres:cription drug overdoses but weed is the issue?? Ugh.....

Unfortunatel, so many are misinformed, ill-informed and uneducated as to cannabis and hemp and their benefits that it feels like an uphill battle to remove the stigma.  
 
It doesn't help that our Conservative government is dead set against it and a lot (I'm looking at you CTV and BDNMB) of media propagate the anti-pot fear-mongering propaganda.

the BPS report mentions bags and schools so more than one bag and more than one school. Hardly an accident where the bag popped out of a pocket.

I've spent years trying to wade through people's misconceptions, stigmas, and I'll even say brainwashing. Right back to Nixon, Nancy Regean, and the whole War On Drugs in which Cannabis was wrongly i:ncluded. You can even find roots of anti Cannabis propaganda during the Alcohol Prohibition. The documentary "Grass" narrated by Woody Harrelson explains it very well.  
 
People have literally been brainwashed by government propaganda for close to a hundred years! Some people just can't disassociate it from cocaine, heroin , methamphetamine, etc because it has been presented as being at the same level of toxicity to the individual and society as a whole to them for years. Unfortunately it's still going on. It's self propagating at this point.  
 
I really do feel it's like banging your head against a brick wall trying to clear the webs from their eyes. They need to swallow their pride, admit they may be wrong and take that step to educate themselves. It's something they have to do for themselves. I don't see how else these misconceptions can change. Making the resources for them to self educate very readily available is a good start I guess.  
 
It IS depressing and frustrating.

CBD oil is what they are now giving children with seizures if no other medicine works. Some are opting for the option of CBD only without the other synthetic drugs that have been used in the past. It has had a huge success rate. Obviously leaving them lying around isn't a good idea though!

There was an article in the local newspaper talking to a veterinarian that administers CBD oil to dogs and how it must be done right as to not cause harm to the animal.  
 
I will be searching the article so I can read again but the paper is a b&^%h to search.

if these 'gummies' are being used to alleviate pain and anxiety that means some ingredient alters the brain doesn't it? Isn't that how CBD<: cannabis works? Alters the brain?  
 
That's why these products need to be kept away from children.

If a child has a fever, is is safe to give them tylenol, advil or aspirin?? If a child is feeling sick, is it safe to give them children's gravol?? All of these drugs are FAR MORE DANGEROUS than CBD. There has been tons of research.  
 
Read some of the information on the links provided, you and Johnbisonbear are in need of a lot of education on this subject, obviously.  
 
What you THINK you know/assume and what has been tested and proven to be true are two different things.  
 
You both need to do some open minded reading.

That's something which the OP has to realize. It wouldn't for some to talk to or hear stories of those who had addiction issues and places which help people overcome addictions. For some people, it did start with marijuana. That cannot be denied.

I started this thread to (hopefully) educate some people who are mistaken about CBD. I NEVER said it was ok to leave CBD edibles lying around: I simply stated they aren't dangerous - which is a FACT. Fearing they are dangerous is based on an OPINION due to the fearmongering from the media and governments.  
 
P.S. CBD in not addictive, is not psychoactive, is not THC, is safer than aspirin, tylenol, gravol, advil, and a host of other pills and liquids our children have easy access to.

The police are in the right to be concerned in this case and brought awareness of the new(er) set of problems which people need to know about. As somebody who supports Teen Challenge etc. , maybe its you who needs to be educated. Do not lecture anybody on 'not being educated'

Regardless whether it's good or bad,what will happen next..people are concerned for their children and no matter how much you tell them they aren't going to listen to this crap

I've known many people who believe so strongly that they are always right, they can't fathom the thought that someone else might have valid points. Everyone is entitled to their own opinion though, right or wrong.  
 
I don't partake but can't wait for the day/decade where I'm going to bake brownies for pain management.  
 
I have been researching CBD oil and THC for awhile now. So far from what I've read and heard, I'd much rather take the oil responsibly than dump pills down my gullet for what ails me. This is my opinion and it is right for me. It baffles me why so many believe that prescribed or OTC pills are safe for prolonged consumption.

You haven't researched CBD - show me the link where it says it can cause intoxication... please.  
 
And Johnbisonbear - maybe you people should show those of us who do choose to partake some respect. I am being respectful in that I am trying to educate, not contradict or deny facts.I am not "making things up", either. My opinion is based on research, not what the media, the government and my own prejudices "tell" me.  
 
The CBD edibles in question have NO negligible THC in them so they can't even be compared to cannabis. Same as O'Doul's can't be compared to beer or hard liquor either.
