I'm tired of my service fees going up and up, and getting dinged for every transaction I make... I use cash often, but I'm retired and this nickel & dime dinging is really getting over the top.  
 
I have a chequing/savings account. I'm seriously thinking of switching institutions. I thought my CU had the best at one time, but they seem to be turning into profit gouging as much as the big banks.  
 
Anyone found a really low set of rates in town?

If you are a member of Compass CU (Crocus) in Brandon and you are 59 + there are no services fees. If this is where you are and you are still paying fees, I'd go visit them.

We as well usually deal with WCU, I cannot figure out the new Our Free Chequing Account. We had enough we switched to Sunrise Credit Union. Love it.  
Imagine going in and speaking with a staff about your account without a charge from your account.

I second Tangerine! No fees, and very easy to deal with on the phone. You use Scotiabank ATM's for deposits and withdrawals etc.

No fees for chequing, unlimited transactions with debit, many other perks like good interest rates for saving and RRSPs.

Another nice feature with Tangerine. If you qualify for overdraft protection, there is only a fee if you use it and ONLY if you do not get the balance back above $0 by 11:59pm Eastern.  
 
Nice when you go shopping at 5:00 pm and your pay cheque doesn't drop until 7:00.

No charges after 60 years old. I love it there. Good people to deal with there too....

For serving or former Canadian Forces members, DND or NPF employees, current and retired RCMP and RCMP civilian employees,(along with a few other DND related employees), the Bank of Montreal offers the defense banking program. It negates all of the fees as well as offers some services like mortgages at BMO employee rates. Also gives unlimited free electronic money transfers. Best of all, it's a real bank with real tellers. I started using the program a couple of years ago, and the teller even linked my account to collect airmiles. Can't say that I have seen any charges since I went over.

charge a customer 10 cents per roll of coin? Just wondering.
