I would like to put a question out there and see what others think. Being the Christmas season is upon us again, who or what organizations do you feel is most in need of some funding right now? There are so many one could donate to and the picking and choosing is sometimes overwhelming. I have donated to many over the years but truly don't know who is would best use funds to benefit others and especially children.

Ronald McDonald House and the Children’s Wish Foundation are important to us as my husband had a wish granted and his family used Ronald McDonald house when he was younger.

Jumpstart helps local children get involved in sports. It helps pay for equipment and any fees that go along with the sport of their choice! Mark’s, Canadian Tire and SportCheck take donations in their stores. Any money you donate here, stays here in Westman.

Thank you for giving at all. There are many great causes in Brandon that need support. It's hard to decide who should get your hard earned money sometimes. The Salvation Army are having trouble finding places to set up their kettle campaign this year. Some stores don't want them there anymore. Very good use of you money, when you compare all charities there are less administration fees come off your donation to the salvation army than any other registered charity. United Way being the worst. Samaritan House is also a great local charity, they are not just a hand out but a hand up, they actually train people to help them become more employable, help them with resume's etc. They provide children's and adult counseling as well as run workshops. I know they help a lot of people in this community. They get my support.

Everytime around this year someone posts incorrect information about local charities. I truly wish you would check your facts before posting. I cannot attest to other United Ways, however our local United Way Brandon & District's operational costs are covered by a grant from the provincial government, therefore every dollar raised stays in our community, we do not take a percentage off your donation, we fund 25 agencies and 34 programs within those agencies including Samaritan House. This funding comes all from local donations, so please be respectful and check your facts before posting, your actions will reflect on the agencies your so keen to support!

would be interested in knowing which charities united way does fund. there are many that I probably would not support and would also like to be sure my donation did not go there. is there a list on your web site for your donations and what they are

I would be interested in knowing the 25 agencies and 34 programs as well...I'm sure they are all worthwhile, but it would be interesting to know.

The YWCA or women’s shelter are always in need of funding! They do so much for the community’s people in need!

We always donate to Helping Hands, the soup kitchen in Brandon. They have a booth set up at Canadian Tire. Also, donate to Strays that Can't Pay, Funds for Furry Friends.

Some of these agencies could not operate without the funding they receive through our annual campaign. If there are some agencies you do not wish to receive your donation you can always donor direct to the ones you wish to support and negative designate to the ones you do not.
