The government is going to have to step up and start making consequences for the people breaking laws. No more slapping fingers and promise not to do it again

To those individuals that were going through cars last night, please return the prescription sunglasses you took. They wont do you any good. No questions asked.

Surely your cover is invalid if you do not lock your vehicle, or your home?

Your insurance will cover you even if you leave your car running with the keys in it.  
 
Yes people should lock their cars and houses and keep valuables out of sight but people are human and mistakes happens. Intentional or not that is why we have insurance. However it sounds like you are Mr. Perfect so you likely don't need it.

I know lots of people in Winnipeg who don't lock their car doors. People will just smash your windows and they'd rather just let the rummage without having to have glass replaced and spend the next few months vacuuming glass out of the seats and carpets.  
 
Also MPI won't cover the cibtebco of your car just parts physically attached to the vehicle.  
 
I've heard you might be able to get coverage on your home owners insurance but I've never looked into that.

That should read MPI won't over the *contents* of your car haha .

Not locking your car because you don't want to replace a window or vacuum is so stupid. These petty criminals that do this, VERY rarely break a window. They are opportunists. They are simply looking for someone that forgot to lock their car or someone that is dumb enough to think its better to leave it unlocked then potentially have to replace a window. Its these people that actually encourage these criminals to keep car hopping looking for an easy score. If people would just lock their cars and take their wallets, purses, iPhones, laptops out of their cars when they exit them these dead beats would look for something else to do.  
 
And yes MPI won't cover your contents as it would be very, very hard to prove what was or wasn't in your vehicle. Just lock the doors already its not a hard concept, that's why cars have locks!!

Is correct . I watched them go car to car till they found one unlocked . They are very fast . They checked all the cars on my street in less then 10 mins . If they found more cars unlocked they would have been caught .

MPI won’t cover your stuff unless it’s attached to the vehicle.. your house or rental insurance may cover it though. Happened a few years ago to us.

These little bas$&@ds cross the line as soon as they step foot on your property. These are the criminals here. No one should ever be penalized for leaving your doors unlocked on your own private property.

Is why people keep leaving stuff in their cars for people to steal in the first place. If there’s nothing in your car and it’s locked they will move on. They certainly won’t take a chance and smash a window if they can’t see anything worth taking.

I had my delivery car taken outside a pizza place! I asked the cops if I was wrong to leave it running (in winter to keep it warm) while I grabbed the next order to go.  
They said "No, a theft is theft". It's a crime. Keys in it or not. Doors unlocked or not.  
 
But of course it's good to be vigilant.

BPS sends out a Facebook reminder every night at 9pm now reminding people to “Lock it Up”. This is to remind you to lock your cars, garages and sheds!  
If you are one that tends to forget to lock things, you may want to set a reminder or get the reminder on fb!
