I work the overnight shift for home care in downtown brandon. I heard the plows clearing princess ave last night. when I walked home this morning, they had plowed the street good from 1st street to 6th street..Only problem was, when the loader cleared the ridge from secondary streets entering princess, they dumped the snow right on the sidewalk, so there were big ridges blocking the sidewalk. I have mobility issues, so I had to walk back, find an opening, and go to the other side of the street.finally, I just walked on the street, but it was quite hazardous , because the plowing took off the snow, but left ice sections on the side of the street. why would the city dump the excess snow on the sidewalk?

roads cleared are mainly for the use of emergency vehicles and those gong to and from work. Sidewalks being cleared may take up to 2 weeks or longer in most cases. Just wait till the parking lot access are blocked with mountains of snow and trying to get out will be a crap shoot because you simply cannot see what is coming down the road. You think with snow fall and ice every year that the city would have better and efficient ways of clearing.Nope and try getting out of your driveway now. You may have a 3 foot snowbank sitting there...Happy shoveling

In my experience all you need to do if you come across this is call the city. On a couple of occasions the snow clearing from the street inadvertently covered the city sidewalk in front of my house, which I keep clear. Both times they responded very quickly and addressed the problem. All you have to do is ask. Same goes with large snow piles that block sight lines or hinder drainage in the spring.
