Hi, I am currently on a one year lease that is ending soon. I am wondering how much notice I need to give my landlord that I am not planning on re-signing. Is it more than 30 days? I tried googling it, but I am not getting a clear answer.. Thanks.

It should state in your lease. The norm is min 30 days when paying monthly.

For a one year lease you should have received a renewal notice 3 months prior to your lease ending. Did you not receive one of those?

If no renewal notice received, notice must be given on, or before, the last day of a rental payment period, to take effect on the last day of the next period.

should of received a lease renewal 3 months in advance and you are to give a minimum of 2 months notice for year leases if not renewing your lease.

Why don't you just ask or have a discussion with your landlord? Why choose a public forum when the answer is so easily obtained. I've always done a lease to know person is committed and not moving out in short order. It's stability. After a year I was good on a month to month basis.

I am a tenant, I have rights too, and a right to protect myself. I don't want to get dinged in the end if I didn't give sufficient enough notice to my landlord. So I sought out a public forum to seek more of an official "law" rather than he said/she said because there is nothing outlining anything specific in my lease. If you don't like my question- why answer?

Have a discussion with your landlord... My word is my bond and integrity is everything. I believe the best in people, you distrust people. U worry about your rights. I avoid going there by just discussing it. If you have been a good tenant should not be an issue. Don't know ur landlord not do I know u. I would start with the source. Your landlord.

I live in a complex where I wouldn't trust a single thing about landlord/tenant affairs. I can most certainly understand the OP not going to the Landlord/Caretaker to explore their options. I'd do the same thing. My caretaker has thrown around a lot of stuff I know is not true because I spent a good long time on the phone with Residential Tenancies about them.  
 
I think the OP should contact Residential Tenancies to make sure he isn't going to be done wrong by a caretaker/landlord such as mine.

A one-year lease is called a fixed term tenancy agreement.  
 
You can’t end a fixed-term tenancy agreement before it it ends, unless you assign or sublet the rental unit. For more information about assigning or subletting your rental unit, click here .  
 
In a fixed-term rental agreement, your landlord has to offer you a tenancy agreement renewal at least three months before the end of the existing agreement. If your landlord doesn’t offer a renewal, you may leave at the end of the existing agreement without notice to the landlord.  
 
If the landlord doesn't give you a new tenancy agreement on time as required by the legislation, and you continue to live in the rental unit after the end of the existing tenancy agreement, the agreement is renewed for another term. When an agreement is automatically renewed because of your landlord's failure to offer a renewal, you may terminate the renewal agreement by giving the landlord notice of one rental payment period.  
 
I always give adequate notice just to maintain a good relationship. You never know when you may need to rent again.
