    Does anyone know if it is allowed to camp out at the Brandon hills? I’m looking for backwoods camping close to town with good walking trails. Also are there any swimmable bodies of water?

    From talking to conservation, camping in the Brandon hills WMA is not allowed unless you have a permit. Some groups (Search and rescue groups) do training out there and stay overnight but it is coordinated with manitoba conservation.

    How close to Brandon? Riding Mountain has backwoods camping, I think Turtle Mountain and Spruce Woods both do as well. All three places are within an hour.
