These pictures don't look like fireblight. Fireblight looks like a fire burned the branches, tips first.
I wonder if it has to do with the strength of the tree and how dry it was this spring. It is supposed to be the driest on record (I am sure with the exception of the dirty 30s).
If you check under the bark to see if it still green...and it is, it could come back. A tree can lose leaves once in a season due to various reasons and grow new ones for a second time. Twice losing...it won't come back.
Giving it a pruning and/or stressing the tree might give it a signal to send out new growth. You should be able to find good instructions online on how to do this. It involves cutting a section of roots every so often as you go around the tree.
If you take a sample & pictures into a nursery to get their take, make sure that the samples are in sealed zip lock bags.
