Heard today that City Of Brandon wants to ban sandpoint well usage in Brandon. Has anyone else heard of this.

I haven’t heard this, can I ask where you heard it and was there any more info then just they want to ban them?

Unless you own the mineral rights to your property, which not many of us do anymore especially within the city, you only actually own the first few cm's of dirt on your land. I can't remember the exact measurements, but its not much. The sand point wells will be deeper than this.  
 
Make sense that the city would outlaw these as they will loose money if your not using city water. It sucks but that's likely the reality of it.

Actually the City of Brandon as of this summer has been drawing water out of the backup emergency wells for a water supply, the river levels are too low and they have been restricted by the province on their water license. Also with that being said the City of Brandon has no authority over water rights, that is controlled strictly by the Province of Manitoba (Manitoba Sustainable Development). Also the province can only restrict usage if you use more then 25 cu.m. per day, no sand point well in Brandon will draw that volume of water so there is nothing to worry about. Also even if legislation did apply to small sand point wells, good luck to whoever would try to enforce no usage, no one knows where the water out of my sprinkler comes from (tap or well).

I agree how would they monitor if someone had a sand point. I wish my property had enough volume of water on it to water grass but it seems no such luck.

Is there a business in town that will install them or sells them for self-installation?

They proposed a water use bylaw that could restrict well use if they enacted the restrictions in a drought if the wells would impact the city well supply that supplements the river. No one is banning your sand point.

Well they won't do that so nothing to worry about.
