Vivint security representatives knocking on doors trying to sell security systems. They have no business cards. Is this a scam.?

Was at my door earlier. It is all good. Not a scam.

They are indeed a legitimate entity, but make sure you do your due diligence before you sign on the dotted line.  
 
Strike one for said salesman was using our local drug crisis to upsell the product. Strike 2 was breezing right past my "I'm not interested" in the high-pressure sales pitch. And strike 3 for the company itself, I later found on yelp.

They are very aggressive, or were when we felt pressured into ours, felt gentleman pretty much barged in. We were looking for a system and didnt know other local prices so went with them. System issues were a real pain in the arse to deal with as at the time the nearest rep was regina and weeks for service.  
 
If considering definitely due your diligence and get local prices as well.

We use them and happy with the service. Had the doorbell cam stop working. They had someone out within a week to fix and it was free to fix. The service is reasonable price wise, however you purchase the products. You can finance thru them and have that amount on your bill. I like the service from them and have 0 complaints.

Guy showed up at our door last Friday at 930 PM, ignored my no soliciting sign and when I realized he was selling something and said I was not interested he still tried to sell it to me. Although once I mentioned our 3 dogs, he left pretty quickly. I am a pretty firm believer in, if I want something I will go get it, I dont need to be pressured on my doorstep.

The guy stopped at our place last night.  
I knew they were in the area so i did some research first.  
You get all the equipment for "free" however you have to sign a FIVE YEAR contract for $60 a month!!!!!  
The salesman told me we could cancel any time if we weren't happy. What he didn't tell me is that if I want to cancel I'll have to pay out the remainder of the contract. So if I cancel after 1 month I owe them $3594  
So technically he didn't lie because you can get out of the contract anytime. You just have to pay a hefty price.  
From the reviews I've read it's also very difficult to get a technician to come and fix your stuff if it stops working.  
These guys go door to door and have the installer with them. There's no local service tech if there's any problems.  
I asked the guy and he said if there's any issues they have someone come repair it within a day or two. I was reluctant to believe this as he was already misleading about being able to cancel at anytime.  
I do think an alarm system is a good idea but if I was to buy an alarm system I'd definitely do my research, check online reviews and be cautious before signing up with someone going door to door trying to lock you into a 5 year contract with misleading sales tactics.

The sure way to get me to never buy from you is to show up at my doorstep. With the exception of children selling fundraiser stuff (I'm a sucker for cookies etc).

Showed up at my door and it was really concerning he knew my first name. Said a neighbour gave him my name but then couldn't say which house he lived in. I said twice I wasn't interested and finally had to just close the door.  
I get this guy is just doing a job, but when someone says no - LEAVE

They prey on the ill equipped and uninformed.
