Westman,

We could always use more spaces for gratitude and recognition. Let’s recognize some local people, businesses, organizations or whomever for doing their bit to help us and/or the rest of the community manage!

I have a few ideas but I’ll give you the first crack at it.

Several City of Brandon Water Treatment Facility Operators sequestered on-site 24/7 - Thank You!

Mayor Chrest says. “I want to personally commend this group of water treatment facility staff, who have stepped up and put the comfort and security of their own lives on hold in order to ensure that our community’s supply of safe, potable water remains uninterrupted.”

I’m glad you started this thread, some real deserved thank yous so far in this seemingly early phase of the pandemic in the province. The sacrifice that water treatment staff are making to keep our water supply safe is truly incredible.
I can think of quite a few ... but one more would be our teachers and BSD staff, who were asked to work in extraordinary unprecedented circumstances last week in the lead-up to school closures. Thank you!

Just to say we are very lucky to live in manitoba. The Corona virus numbers are not rising fast at all, good thing there. It is because businesses,all aspects of healthcare and people self isolating for 14 days. It sure is a inconvenience but your neighbor could be healthcare worker,corrections officer,police officer, truck driver. Thank them next time you see them. I know first hand, it is very stressful and hard for them too. It is a pain, not knowing when any business,youth program, etc will be open or begin, it is frustrating to no end. Let's think positive for a minute, the weather is changing so outside will be a great place to hang out with family. I see an end with 3-4 weeks. Always remember those working overtime and working, very hard to keep life going on. I am wondering if we can get something to the water treatment plant staff. Patience will run out, my have almost but life will continue on.

Health care workers and home care and paramedics/fire all of you Bless you first off.
Highway operations staff many functions , bakers, grocery store employees, Garbage pickup, gas attendants, Hardware store employees, fast food employees, cleaning staff in all facilities, police and security guard, corrections, All of these and many more are required and when we see those people at that time we are very grateful and appreciate you all so very much THAN YOU Please stay safe

I want to thank all the heros that are STAYING HOME!!!

There was an article yesterday that in BC, they figure the social distancing strategies are working and they have roughly 1/2 the cases they would have had without it.

So it WORKS!

Hard to follow-up those last five posts, but I’ll add delivery drivers including the four that have already made drop-offs for us at our home. Over the span of 3 weeks they’ve gone from a sort of luxury service on stuff like grocery and restaurant to a super important part of people keeping physical distance and attacking that curve. Thank you!

Not just parents at home with their kids, but childcare workers as well. Some are still watching other people's kids which puts them at high risk (we all know little kids are germ factories!) But they do this so many essential workers can still get to their jobs. Just imagine if our nurses, police officers, prison guards, grocery store clerks, etc had to stay home because they couldn't find proper childcare during this crisis!

To all my employees that I've been supervising the last two weeks, showing up for all your shifts, putting up with angry customers, being the bomb staff you have been and will continue to be since we've been deemed an "essential" service. We managers truly appreciate everything you guys are doing, you guys have been amazing. We're right there on the floor with you.

Helping Our Health Care Heroes

Jody from Prairie Kids Co. of Brandon has an awesome campaign going to help medical staff in our city to work more in comfort. Through her website prairiekidsco.com you can “buy a band”. The button headbands are used to secure a face mask without having to put the elastic behind your ears. Many health care workers are developing blisters and sores behind their ears from the pressure of the elastic bands on face masks.

For a donation of $8.00, Jody will deliver a face mask to health workers in need. I purchased 5 masks for $40. today. It’s just a small thing I feel I can do to thank health care workers at this difficult time.

Clarification: Jody at prairiekidsco.com is selling the button headbands that you can secure masks to to prevent pressure behind the ear. $8.00 each and she will deliver them to medical workers in need

Kudos to the open businesses that have implemented social distancing strategies. Limiting customer numbers in the store. Making aisles one way. Taping off social distancing marks on the floor.
These stores are doing their parts. Just need more people following the strategies.

Extremely impressed with Sobeys and the one person per household, social distancing lineups and their hand washing station. This is how all stores should be.

I am also extremely impressed with the staff at sobeys, for the most part they have been cheerful and helpful through this stressful situation. I also agree with the hand wash station before you go in the door, cutting the risk down as far as possible is what will get us out of this.
