I live outside of Brandon. While waiting at Superstore for my wife I thought I would buy a $6 lottery ticket. Because of the virus I used my credit card for a contactless purchase. Got my statement and found a $3.50 "cash advance" charge. The credit card company told me that it was a charge made by the lottery kiosk in addition to the price of the lottery ticket. I did not notice any sign at the kiosk indicating this was the policy and have not been back since (and won't be). Has this happened to anyone else? Is there a sign noting this policy?

I switched to online tickets and was noticing a $4 cash advance fee on my statements. Checked the paperwork and there is a surcharge for “cash like” transactions

a few years ago that happened to me. I called my m/c and told them I use my card other places with no fee and there was nothing posted or no one told me there would be.  
They credited it back to me (I think it was $10 back then) and I'm pretty sure they said it was the company's fee not there's but I could be wrong, it's been a few years.

I buy lotto and play games through the online site. I play with several online gambling site and everytime I use my credit card i am charged a 5.00 cash advance fee. They have warnings on the website thought that all transactions will be treated as a cash advance. However, when i use my Visa Debit card through my bank account there is no fee at all. The lotto keyosks are likely set up the same way unfortunately, i wouldn't of thought buying in person would be the same.

Yes this is applied at superstore. Im not sure if walmart lottery kiosk does this. I dont buy lotto tickets there anymore unless i pay cash.  
 
I buy mine from sobeys 18th as I purchase groceries at the same time and it is not charged there.

Aren't all credit card transactions technically cash advances? Why would there be a cash advance charge for lotto tickets but not groceries, gas, etc.? What is the difference? I'd dispute this charge.
